Still, Russell County was 19-5 with a solid record in the region and they didn't play any of the top teams in the region. They were a really hard team to get an accurate read on. They definitely blew that argument about playing tougher competition to get ready for the tournament out of the water in this instance. :lol:

I don't think they blew any theory out of the water. Shoot 54% from the game and 73% from the field in the second half and see how many games you lose....

Lafayette over Frankin County was a big upset in the 11th. I know Franklin County was probably the 3rd best, but Lafayette was 11-18. They only made it out of the district because the public school in Lexington won't play Catholic and that district couldn't seed teams. So, a blind draw placed LCA and Lafayette in one semifinal (and Lafayette only won by 2) and Dunbar, Catholic and Tates Creek in the other side playing for one region spot.

 

I will have to say Lafayette was playing better than any 11-18 team I have seen. Franklin County would have given Scott County a run for their money. I think it is possible that Lafayette slipped in and under the radar screen, and gave both Franklin County and Scott County more than they were expecting.

Just saying, people generally put a lot of stock in the idea that playing a tough schedule gets you ready for the tournament and not playing the schedule leaves you unprepared...it didn't hold in this game. Russell Co. avoided all the top teams in the region during the season and then beat the favorite in the opening round.

The 2 time defending 12th Region Champion Lincoln County Patriots got knocked off last night by McCreary Central in the semi-finals. I don't know if you want to call it an upset or not, but the Patriots had the best record in the region going into the tournament. The Patriots also had defeated every team in the regional tournament in the regular season.
