Of course, I will have to agree! Hounds will roll in this one.

Hounds 75

Cards 62:ylsuper::walk:

This is a tough one ... I believe Corbin has the more talented team; however, South Laurel is 7-0 in 50th district tournament games and 9-0 in 13th region tournament games. That's impressive. I am sure the Cardinals will be ready from a coaching stand point.

Thus, for Corbin to win, I believe they need a comfortable lead going into the fourth quarter (10 to 15 points) ... and even then, I would not feel safe (I am remembering the 13th Region final last year). The Redhounds need to score 65 or more points (when they do, they're undefeated). The Redhounds need to attack early and often offensively.

I am going with the Hounds -- Corbin 72 South Laurel 59. :thumb:

I'm going with Corbin 71-62 but wouldn't be surprised if they won by 15-20. I also wouldn't be surprised if South came out and won by about 8-10. South is without a doubt still the top dog until beaten when it counts. I also think that Corbin is the best team in the region. As always, you never can predict this game with knowledge. You can only hope for luck as the records go out the window. Both teams are 1-0 when it counts.

For Corbin to win, I think they need to take the ball to the hole early and often. Feed Crawford until his hands bleed. He needs to take it right to St. John and get the big man in foul trouble. Now, unlike other teams, Manns and Crawford while not as tall, are equally as strong if not stronger than the big guy. However, if I were Coach Pietrowski, I'd much rather play them with St. John on the bench.

Corbin also, needs to dictate the tempo of this game. Coach Wright, Coach Hammonds, and Coach Denny are great coaches and if you let them game plan control the style of play, it could spell trouble. Corbin will also need to get out on Gilbert and Watkins. One or two threes could be livable but you cannot let them get out there and get hot. They can shoot you out of a game or at least put the pressure on you if they are on.

For South Laurel to win, they will need to establish the big man on offense, and keep him out of foul trouble. They will also need to slow the game down. If the game is up in the 70's or 80's not many teams in the state can beat Corbin. That's even fairly true if the game is in the 60's. Here are the things South must do.

-Slower and Lower: Slow pace, Low scoring.

-Clean the glass: If Crawford or Manns rebound on the offensive end well, they are going to score or go to the line. Although small in stature, Isaac Wilson can sneak in there and grab some long rebounds.

- Road block: Keep Wilson from penetrating where he can score or dish out.

- Face Guard 1 of 2: You cannot afford too double or focus on both Smith and Johnson because Corbin has way too many weapons. You must pick your poison and stay on one of the two. After that, you must hope the other isn't hitting.

I'm taking Corbin by 18.

I look for Blake Hendrickson to come up big on defense in this game and don't be surprised to see St. John double teamed. I believe Corbin is going to make someone else beat them other than St. John.

But with thats said, if I woke up Saturday and somene tlls me South Laurel won ... I wouldn't be shocked.

Also, I believe it's key to win this game ... Corbin was burnt last season after losing because they had Knox Central, Cumberland and Clay in its barcket, while South had Jackson, Lynn Camp and Bell County.

The winner of this game wins the region IMO.

I would be surprised to see Corbin win this game by more than 12 or 13 points. South Laurel has been in this situation time and time again ... and they've came out winners.

If the pace is slowed down and the score is low, then South Laurel will probably come out on top (as Hank alluded to). I really hope this game does not come down to free-throws. South hits their free throws (though, they did somewhat struggle against Whitley).

I hope the Corbin fans get there early -- it's going to be a packed gym and a great environment, I am sure.

I was talking about that very thing last year. While South was very talented last season and proved it in the tournament, you argue the fact of Corbin, Knox Central, or Cumberland could have been the best team in the region. Clay was also at least top 5. I'm not sure that any of those 3 would have beaten South in a one game setting but all 3 had the potential. That Top bracket was scary loaded. It reminded me of the lower bracket of this years sweet 16. I'm not calling anything but if a certain teams gets to Lexington, they will be playing a very good team in round 1 baring huge upsets in a certain region. Due to the load in the lower bracket, I wouldn't be one bit surprised to see a certain team win a State championship should they make it. Not because I think they are better but because whoever comes out of that bottom will be beat up.

Corbin-71 South Laurel-58

Gotta go with Corbin by 10+ points.

What did Corbin and South shoot from the field in each of the previous three matchups? I think the team that shoots the ball best from the field will come out on top. I can not see many fouls called in this game. Both teams will play physical but clean basketball and both teams know how to play that way without fouling.

I have not seen Corbin double the post in any games this season, what makes you think they will try that this time around Les?

It would not surprise me to see the Hounds pack in a tight zone and see if South can fire away from behind the arc or press the Cards from start to finish and see if they can get into their bench late in the game.

I was playing Double Dribble on my old Nintendo and I was playimg Los Angelas and I double-teamed their big man every time he touched the ball and I ended up winning by 24. I just figured it might work.

Man, I loved that game!

That game was awesome. If you shoot the three in the corner, it was MONEY everytime.
