Thanks roosterhead, should you arrive early to get a seat at Powell County or is the gym's capacity large enough to hold a good sized crowd?

I was at the last regional tournament at Powell for the semifinals (Perry/Whitesburg and Breathitt/Powell) and while it was a large crowd, I don't think anyone was denied entrance. I'd probably go early if you want lower level.

Yeah it a good atmosphere when at Powell. Not as large so that it doesn't get heated but large enough to hold everyone.

The last regional tourney at Powell wasn't really a 'good atmosphere'; there was a floor stampede / riot near the end of the Powell vs Breathitt game with multiple arrests. There is no rail etc to seperate the fans from the floor, it was crowded, and the refs allowed things to get out of control.

So it was Powell's fault that the ref's let the game get out of hand? I walked through the pass gate and ate in the back so everything that the Powell Co. administration could do, was done and done well. There are no rail at Perry Central's gym so thats has nothing to do with a "stampede". A jail has bars as a door but that doesn't stop riots from occurring. Crowded a little maybe but not near as crowded as Hazard in 2005 or anytime in the past. 2005 at Hazard was miserable.

That was interesting, to say the least. I was in the upper level behind the benches with my girlfriend at the time and we were floored by what was taking place. I'm not totally sure what the folks at Powell County could have done, though. It seemed to spiral out of hand really quickly.
