Social Security, Medicaid, food stamps, all are socialistic and a drain on our society. Yes they started out with all the greatest intentions, but have become drains on our government. Too many looked at those who really needed it , were jealous and wanted it for theirselves, henceforth expansion of these programs to people, who with some hard work and sacrifice, could have gotten by without it.

 

Unforunately there are some who want a handout and do not want to work harder or sacrifice. And worse yet there are those who support this way of life because they hate the idea of those who have succeeded and think they have to share their hard work with others.

For those facing some type of hardship such as mental or physical handicap, I have no problem helping them. For those facing a temporary problem we have unemployment and though I hate these programs, we are a rich enough country to help out people on a temporary basis. What happens to programs like these is that get twisted all out of shape from their oringinal intent. They become bloated and the lazy take advantage of them.

Do you just let the people who don't meet your criteria of "needy" just go without? What about their kids? Let them suffer, too?

 

Its easy to talk about all of the problems. Coming up with real solutions is the challenge.

#20. AIG bonuses. The Stimulus Bill was rushed through without a chance to read it over and now Dems are complaining of the bonuses. On top of that Dodd, who 1st lied that he did it, included in the bill that all contracts were to be honored.

 

Now due to their hypocriisy, no their outright lying, there are faking indignation of the company honoring a legal contract. These guys have studied Joseph Goebbels and his "Big Lie Theory very well.

#22. This time the Dems are hiding behind the Constitution and wanting to tax the AIG bonuses at 90%. I believe this to be unconstitutional in 2 ways.

 

Article 1 - Section 9 - Clause 3 states that no 'expost facto' law is allowed. That is, no law is allowed to be passed that makes something that was legal when it occurred and then make it illegal. The bonuses were legal and now the Dems and some weak-spined Republicans want to pass an "ex post facto' law to tax the income.

 

Article 1 - Section 9 - Clause 4 states ... no tax shall be laid, unless in proportion to the Census ... My understanding is that you cannot tax one particular group. If we allow this, what happens in the future, they can come after any of us. Whether we are lawyers, teachers, construction workers or any other job description, they can control in any manner. they wish.

 

I now believe they use hypocrisy to cover up their lies in an attempt to take away our freedoms one at a time. No different than what Hitler did, always in the name of defending the people from some boogeyman. Go after 1 group then another and before you realize it they are coming after you.

I promise I'm not trying to pick on you but you've got to do more than listen to one side. Use the google thingy every once in a while.

 

The reality is that Dodd introduced an amendment in the Senate version that restricted executive compensation. The Senate approved it. However, the committee then assigned to work out the differences between the Senate version and the House version changed it.

 

So who studied the "Big Lie Theory?" Hannity? Doucy? Rush? Fox?

I think for myself. When I was 1st out of college back in the early 1970's, I was one of those who hoped government, because of its high morality, could really do great things. Was I ever wrong. I found out that the liberals who wanted to take this country into uncharted waters, at least for the US, had no morality. Where I would support some help they wanted the government to bash those who worked and just wanted to enforce their socialist/communist views of big government.

 

And as far as Rush, Hannity and others like them, I believed in what they have been saying long before they came on the scene.They just became a re-enforcement of my own thinking.

You still haven't refuted the fact that Dodd put a restriction into the initial bill and did NOT put any loopholes or provisions in for TARP recipients.

 

His version passed the Senate. I'd hardly call that worming his way out.

 

Expand your sources of information. Yours aren't very good. You've repeated falsehoods in this one thread on more than one occasion. I'm not saying you're trying to lie. I'm just saying that you need to look into accusations before making them.

Thank you. I was just getting back on to say that I just saw that this morning. While I still stand by the fact that his original bill did have restrictions I was completely wrong that he didn't go back and change it at the insistence of the Treasury. He insists that he did not know when the Treasury was pressuring him that it involved AIG. I think even his most ardent supporters raise an eyebrow at that.

I did not want to make any changes to my original Senate-passed amendment but I did so at the request of Administration officials, who gave us no indication that this was in any way related to AIG. Let me be clear - I was completely unaware of these AIG bonuses until I learned of them last week.

 

"Reports that I changed my position on this issue are simply untrue. I answered a question by CNN last night regarding whether or not a specific date was aimed at protecting AIG. When I saw that my comments had been misconstrued, I felt it was important to set the record straight - that this had nothing to do with AIG.

 

"Fortunately, we wrote this amendment in a way that allows the Treasury Department to go back and review these bonus contracts and seek to recover the money for taxpayers. Again, I have led the fight to curb excessive executive compensation, and will continue to do so."
