HCFan1 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 What teams and players are going to be leading the region this year?
Blue Magic Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Mickey Sutton should lead the 9th region this year in every category. He's been lifting and getting his drive up and should be able to wreck the ball 300+ this season. Heard he might be attending the University of Alabama on a full ride.
NKY sports CEO Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Mickey Sutton should lead the 9th region this year in every category. Covington Catholic is in the 7th Region in golf not the 9th. With that said, Kyle Wilshire from Scott County, Will Bishop from Paul Dunbar, and Hunter Stewart from Lexington Christian appear to be the favorites to win the 9th Region. Don't know much about Adam Venci from Scott but he could be a favorite as well.
Cacdawg Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Josh Bertke from Beechwood is only a Sophomore and has gone to state twice.

cooperstown Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Ryle returns 3 players who went to state last year. I look for Chris Lally to have a big year, as he has gained quite a bit of size and strength lately.
Eta Rho Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 How many schools in nky compete in golf and have a team?
HCFan1 Posted February 9, 2009 Author Posted February 9, 2009 Yes I did mean 7th region. I apologize. To answer Eta Rho's question just about all nky schools compete. I know that Holmes does not have a team annually, and some of the smaller schools might have a few players, but may not have a full team every year.

They have Kyle Wilshire, Adam Venci, and Robbie Barber(DNP last season sue to transfer in middle of season) as their top 3. All they need is a solid 4th man and we could see them win their region.
golfDad90 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Ryle's Jordan Erlewine is my favorite to win the region - which he won two years ago as a Freshmen. I expect Ryle to finish 1st or 2nd in the Region. Chris Lally should be healthy this year. Blake Hamilton returns after playing in the State tourney last year as a Freshman. Chris Desmarais will likely be 4 or 5 man. CovCath might regain the Region Championship after finishing runner-up the last two years. They will be led by Mickey Sutton and Andrew Kendall. I don't know who else will join the top 5 - maybe Josh Moorman. Beechwood might be the sleeper this year. Josh Bertke qualified for the All "A" State championship but not the State tourney in Bowling Green. Although, Josh starts kind of late due to baseball. Watch for Carter Hibbard from Boone. I expect he'll settle down and gain more control over his swing. And finally, Northern Kentucky golf won't be the same without Villa's Denny Van Houten. I will miss his smile, his swagger, his love of the game, and how he taught sportsmanship to his players.
TheSecondComing Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 It should shape up to be a good season!
