Were you there? RC had a 7 pt lead in the 3rd, and went cold. Continued to get the same looks, they just didn't go down. As far as foul trouble that wasn't a problem. Might have been the fact that the legs went a little dead after playing the semis on Sunday, the finals on Monday, traveling on Tuesday and playing early on Wednesday? Ever thought about that?

I assume they did, unless there's been a geographical change I'm not aware of. When did their regional tournament finish up? Anyway, that's not an excuse for our girls. Anyway you slice it, they're defending 16th Region champs. The thread was about Russell and Rowan Co, and whether or not the girls should play hard for 32 minutes or allow other teams to do as they please in the game.

I guess teams cannot play hard unless they are pressing in a 32 point game late in the fourth quarter. I am learning a lot in this thread.

Nobody was complaining about the state tournament; someone posted that fouls were the reason RC didn't win, and I merely offered some other scenarios. Just so you know, in case the team you support ever wins the region, they press at Diddle! Maybe you could petition the KHSAA on that too....

I saw on here where they had a classy coach so I guess he would do the right thing.

Post # 4 was the first post that mentioned the press and the hands. I don't think he was complaining, he just pointed out the coach must not have been happy with their play. (and the coach stated to the ADI something along those lines). He did wish them well at Diddle , so obviously he thinks they are a pretty good team. At 14 & 0 I don't think there was any doubt in anyones mind who would win this game. Most of the complaints I have read have had to do with players being short , or tired , or any excuse one wants to make. I don't think I would be complaining if I was 14 & 0.:confused:

No, the point is some would say that if RC plays aggressive man to man defense at the end of a game, it is considered unsportsmanlike because the other teams have difficulty performing. One could make the argument from the other perspective that if that is indeed unsportsmanlike, then throwing the ball in the post to 2 6 footers to play against someone 6 inches shorter could also be regarded as unsportsmanlike. I don't agree with either assessment. Teams play to their strength...period.

If I coached I would expect my players to play as instructed. So if I told them to play agressive man to man up by 30 toward the end of the game, that is what they better play. Any unsportsman like play being claimed by this would be a reflection of the coach . I also would like to add : if a coach is walking the sideline in an aggressive manner, trying to work the refs for every call up by 30 with 2 minutes to go, that also reflects on the coach and not the players. That being said , I would like to wish the Rowan Co. players well in their hunt for the "big trophy" , they are good and do have a shot at it.:thumb:

All this talk and crying about a full court man defense late in a lopsided game is ludicris. Stop crying about and learn how to beat a full court man to man press! Whine all you want to but it still won't change the outcome. I mean c'mon folks Russell just couldn't handle the pressure at home.

Wow ! I just got home and I feel left out. I have read every post on here and I gotta tell you, I must have missed it. I don't really see anyone crying in them. I believe it's coaching Philosophy they are talking about !:lol:

Wow, I don't venture into this forum often, but I truly am thankful for this thread, it's been great. I love the banter. I don't know the situation, didn't see the game, nor do I have a dog in this fight, however, I will offer an opinion. My opinion, which may or may not be overly popular here, is that it's simply a matter of class. Winning with it is sometimes more difficult than losing with it. I think some coaches are in desperate need for respect, perhaps the margin is what they feel may attain that respect. I wish both squads the best in the districts and region.

I don't have a dog in this fight either but if a team plays it's best picking up full court , then they should play that way. I would not throw in the towel until the other team admits defeat and starts subsituting it 's players. Then I would put in my underclassmen and have them to play full court also. You have to teach them what to do even if you have a 32 point lead. If the opposing team can't handle it then that is their problem . But I would teach the younger players to play the same way my starters do. I would not like to run the score up on anyone because I have been there it's no fun. But you still have to coach to win the state and pulling back and playing into someone elses game is not the way to teach young players. I was not there so I don't know who subbed and who didn't in this game. Rowan does have a very good team I hope they win state but it is a big challenge. GOOD LUCK!
