First round of All A tournament, played at Wolfe County.

 

The Lady Owls won a one point decision in Campton early in the season, so this win was extra impressive in that they won without the services of leading scorer (24ppg) junior Mika Turner playing. She will be out of action for a while while she recovers from mono.

 

All the girls picked it up in her absence. Congrats to them and I'm really proud of the way they played tonight. Only six turnovers, according to the Campton radio wrapup as we were driving home.

Now it's on to June Buchanan for the next game.

It was a great game. The past two games, the Lady Owls had to step it up, because of the absence of Mika. They played extremely well tonight and I think it will continue, now that they see that they can continue to win, even without a key player like Mika, if they all play together and pick up the slack.

I think that playing and winning without Mika gave all of them a confidence boost. All the girls stepped up when needed. Great Lady Owls! Keep up the hard work.

Mike Turner is probably out driving his state highway salt truck tonight. He's in fine condition. Now, his daughter Mika is definitely under the weather.

 

Just kidding around with ya. Their names are so similar that it's easy to get them mixed up. But their games are both the same. Mike was a first team all-state player in 1983. His daughter has the genes to be a great one before she graduautes.

Big win for the Lady Owls. A big confidence booster to get a win without your leading scorer and one of the top players in the region. The last i heard is that Mika will be back in at least 2 weeks but with an illness like mono who knows. Hope Mika gets to feeling better.
