I understand how reasonable people can disagree with him in many, even all, areas, but do you honestly believe that Rush is not an extremely intelligent man? If so, then you may be among the millions of liberals who also voted for John Kerry, believing him to be an intellectual heavyweight.

A patriotic American can certainly hope that a president fails to implement a wrong-headed agenda, for the sake of the nation. Very few people want to see their own country fail, but wanting to see Obama fail to remove abortion restrictions, force coal companies out of business, increase utility bills, add restrictions to our Second Amendment rights, and to implement a host of other liberal policies that will be with us long after Obama leaves office is not the least bit un-American.

 

Absent a sharp reversal by Obama on a large number of policies, it is difficult to understand how any conservative can hope that Obama "succeeds," if success is defined by implementing a wide array of liberal policies. I will selectively support Obama when I agree with his decisions, which seems like a reasonable approach to me. (His plan to gradually draw down troops in Iraq and increase troops in Afghanistan is one such policy that I will be supporting.)

 

What Rush said, aside from his intentional sound bite is really no different than what tens of millions of patriotic Americans will be doing over the next four years.

I may be naive but as a Liberal I hope his success reaches far more then implementing a few Liberal policies, we have much bigger fish to fry and if he doesn't succeed this country will be in a world of trouble.

I don't think the man is stupid, I don't like him though. I feel he does more to hurt Conservatism than help it, that's why I can't listen to his show. You and I usually agree, I'm on the other side of the fence with you on Rush, Hoot.

Nowhere near uneducated as he has an amazing grasp of what is usually going on. Shock jock certainly. I don't listen to him but when I've heard quotes on other sources he seemed to rant about the liberals wanting the US to fail in order to enhance their agenda. I couldn't open the link but I have to wonder if he was playing off of that.

Rush is over most peoples heads, if you do not listen to him ona a regular basis you won't understand him. His arrogance is all part of the show and sarcasism runs rampant. He can easily be taken out of context and he enjoys it.

Rush's interview of Tim Russert a few years ago was one of the best that I have heard. The mutual respect and admiration each man had for the other was palpable. Rush is not my favorite talk show host but he is unquestionably the best in his crowded, competitive profession. Idiots do not last long in talk radio. Ask Al Franken or Alec Baldwin. :lol:

If Obama delivers on half of his promises, he will not succeed. Maybe he already understands that fact. Keeping Gates as his Sec. of Defense and reneging on his earlier pledges of a quick troop withdrawal from Iraq are encouraging signs.

 

I hope that Obama succeeds, but I do not think success is possible unless he is much more pragmatic and willing to change his goals than his extreme left wing campaign rhetoric indicated that he would be.

I think you all are confusing my my use of the words educated and intelligent. I prefer someone who is supposed to be an intelligent expert in the field of politics to not be a college dropout with a background in music radio and sports marketing.

Since they are cut from opposite ends of the same mold it's just a illustration of which side was willing to let a shock jock actually have a position of influence.

If he was an idiot, then there quite simply would not be the Fairness Doctrine push that there has been on the left, and there would not have been the incredible amounts of failed capital poured into efforts like Air America. He is shrewd and very good at what he does. I listen to him when I can, primarily because his references and citations are very good sources of starting information.

 

As to what he is quoted as saying, I do not know how ayone can read that and not understand that he is talking about Obama's success or failrue being tied to his policies. If Obama gets nothing that he wants pushed through, his own supporters will consider him a failure. I like almost nothing that he has proposed, believe it would be bad for this country, and therefore, from that perspective, I want him to fail. To fail at getting those things passed.

I believe we need to go through that fire. so to the extent Obama wants to hand away money to every jackanape that holds his hands out, I want him to fail.
