WKU has done their fair share of beating EVERY school in Kentucky over the last decade. I, for one, would never take the Hilltoppers lightly nor laugh off their accomplishments in this state. Maybe Louisville and Kentucky could do with putting some of the outstanding home-grown players on the court that WKU seems to win with.

 

But that's beside the point of the thread. I'm glad to see the Slade hire, but I just can't get behind the excitement of your first post, RP. I'm of the opinion that we'll be even worse next year than we were this year, despite any coaching hires we might make. Time will tell and I need to see this one out. See everyone in a few months at the spring game.

 

Slade is a monster. Brent Guy was a very, very good DC at ASU before becoming a head coach. There are many people that say Utah State can never get themselves into a better situation. Johnson is solid, it also looks as if he'll be coaching WR's...which is what Kragthorpe was doing, and I am not sold on the head coach, coaching a position. Lastly, Nelson is gone frome the staff (he was the horrible DL coach, who became an even worse Special Teams coordinator)......things are looking slightly better.

I don't know enough about these coaches to really weigh in on whether or not they were huge hires. But wouldn't you agree that things are likely to get worse before they get better? UofL has 16 commits right now, 5 are 3 *, zero are 4 * and the returning roster is not full of talent and depth.

 

I know you are a Kragthorpe guy and I respect that. I just think it is going to be super rocky for a couple/three more years and wonder if the fanbase can be held off during that time.

I really believe that next season will be the hardest, and then things will start to click back up.....I believe in a four year period regardless. This program has had an absolute perfect storm of attrition, injuries, legal problems, etc.....it has been well spoken about on here, about their problems...

 

I really think the future for this program is solid, it takes hard times for it to get there.

What's the word on the new JUCO QB that Kragthorpe seems to favor? Are Wolf and Simms really looking to transfer out?

Word is, that neither are transferring as of now...Froman (juco QB) is on campus, and will be in classes next week....he looks the part, we'll see from there. Spring, at worst, will be very fun.

I am so glad to hear that reality has finally set in. I agree next year will hit bottom and then there will be a upswing, the speed depends on if recruiting picks up or not. As far as the hires only time will tell. It's kind of like UL was on probation with all the crazy losses of players.

You can't build a program on juco kids and transfers. The recent hires are strong but not enough for Kragthorpe to stay past 2009. If you are a legit BCS program you can't let kids like Cobble, Finch, Wilson and Green get out of your own backyard.

I agree with you, it will be very hard for Krags to stay past next season. He has not made an impression with the local kids. Add Foy to that list as well.

Green was never going to come to Louisville, that's a silly argument to knock Kragthorpe for. Same thing with Whiting. Now, they are not trying to "build" their program with juco kids. They are trying to fill holes, so they can build from the hs ranks, it's really the only way to do it, and hope to not truly have the bottom fall out. In reality when kids leave Louisville to go to UK or some other BCS school, some of it could be considered a knock on the coaching or the recruiting process, but a lot of these local kids have ideas where they want to go anyway, there's not much more selling these schools around here can do.

Vic? Louisville was his third choice after West Virginia and UK fell through.

^ Not at all the story....I know you have some X inside information, but he was offered by all three, chose WVU, then Devine committed to WVU, Petrino let the 'Ville, then he picked Louisville....and considering he was the best RB in the Commonwealth this year, I am very happy.
