For many Christmases now, I've received some very thoughtful gifts from some very special friends. I treasure each of these presents, because they remind me of the people in my life who mean so much to me.

 

Today, I arrive home to a VERY large box sitting in front of my door! Since it was dark when I arrived home, I couldn't read the return address. However, I know who would ship me a box, so I'm as excited as a two year old to get it inside and see what treasures it holds.

 

Once inside, I look at the return address....but it's not familiar..:confused: What could this be? From whom? The box is taped tightly, so it takes me a while to open, because I can't just rip it open, I've got to find something to cut the tape off.

 

Finding a sharp knife from the depths of the random kitchen utensil drawer, I carefully slice through the layers of packaging tape. Success! I open the box, and remove layer after layer of paper. Behold! Another box! Taped as tightly as the first, I am becoming more impatient. I slice less carefully through the packaging tape on this box to reveal a white envelope addressed simply "Rockmom" (not really, but it did have my name), in unfamiliar writing, lying carefully atop yet more layers of crumpled paper. I carefully open the envelope, and read the note.

 

Already I'm laughing! The person who sent the gift is the person from whom I would LEAST expect a gift! I thought I had alienated this person! But the note was so charming and heartfelt, all my feelings of alienation melted away.

 

I eagerly removed the last of the paper surrounding my gift to reveal a bottle of wine, the name of which is meant to remind me of the gift-giver! I laughed till I cried!

 

 

 

Thank you RunToState! I'll enjoy this and toast you while doing so! I'll keep the bottle to remind me that a nemisis can also be a friend!

You know, it can get pretty cutthroat in the P/R forum and usually RTS and I are on opposite sides of the aisle. However, he is one poster in that position that I can continue to carry on conversations in which I feel respected and appreciated. He's not all about hearing himself talk or being condescending. If I go too far, I can offer a personal apology to him and he graciously accepts it. I've never met him in person, but I still consider him a friend. Him sending RM this gift confirms what I have always believed about the kind of person he is and his character.
