Boone County 76 Conner 60

Featured Replies

Game was much closer than the score. Boone capitalized on 4 straight turnovers to end the third and take a 2 point lead to the fourth. Boone coach did a great job switching to a small and quick line-up to start the fourth and Conner couldn't handle the press and collapsed.

Number 23 for Conner (I think Lang), had a rough night handling the ball. Conner had 19 turnovers to 11 for Boone. Conner Sophomore Robinson had a very good night with 11 points, several rebounds, blocks and no more than one or two of the turnovers.

Conner works on handling the press and they will be a tough out come tourny time. Boone is deep and shares the ball well.

Close game until the start of the 4th. Boone started out in the 1st at 14-5, then Conner came back. The lead changed a few times until the end of the third and start of the 4th, when Boone took control. Every time Boone pressed in this game, they pushed their lead out. Popp/Schulze did a good job denying Lang shots. Boone forced at least 3 5-second calls on inbounds plays.

Earls stayed down low on the blocks most of the game and had a strong game with 19 points. Cotton also had a good offensive game and threw a nice dunk down off a steal and runout. Boone had about 5 in double figures. Boone's depth in the 2010 class is starting to show. Nice team effort and victory in an important district seeding game. Everybody got in the game for Boone, and 9 got significant minutes.

Nice win for Boone.

BC is playing great

Better defense so far and less reliant on 3 point shots this year.

This certainly cements Boone at #2 and leaves a sizeable gap to #3.

I'll give Boone the 2nd. spot, but I think the gap between 1st. and 2nd. is bigger than 2nd. and 3rd. Ryle and Conner can both beat Boone on any given night. Last night's game was alot closer than the score reflected.

Right now I'd give a slight edge to Boone Co. Holmes may have the athletes but are still learning to find thier way, by the end of the year Holmes should be the better team. But I wouldn't count Boone Co out even then.

Can't forget about Highlands. They could give Boone a run for their money too.

Holmes beat Boone by 20 last year. There is a VERY big gap between 1st and 2nd in the 9th. Boone lacks the size and athleticism to knock Holmes off.

It's not out of the realm of possibility. Boone has good depth and is playing good team ball and better defense than last year. Boone beat Conner by 40, 30, and 20 last year, but Conner beat them at the end of the year and played close for 3 quarters last night. Anything can happen in high school ball.

Boone can match up with Holmes OK in height:

Earls v. Pittman 6'5 v 6'6

McFarland v. R. Johnson 6'5 v 6'5

Cotton v. J. Johnson 6'3 v. 6'4

Gabbard v. Housely 6'0 v. 6'2

Popp v. Riley 6'0 v. 6'0

Plus, Boone can bring a 6'7 and four 6'3 off the bench if needed, and Holmes has tall bench players as well.

I'd attribute at least 10 points of last year's margin to Henderson due to his stifling defense on Krohman, who was Boone's leading scorer. Boone is not living and dying by the three-point shot this year.

Boone might not be quite as athletic or tall, but they have some good overall team quickness, and McFarland and Cotton are fairly athletic and can throw it down too.

Holmes is reigning 9th region champion and still king until proven otherwise, but they better not get too complacent.

Well said! I think the BC backup big men behind Earls and Lay can add some depth to their size also when they get the time. Earls was in foul trouble early last night and BC needs to be able to replace him with strong physical size and not just height. In order to continue the run, rebounding has to improve for BC. They look better than last years team because they are playing much better defense and the ball is being pass around more even on the penetration drives.

Legitimate argument, but I don't want to thread jack and take away from Boone's W over Conner, so I'll save my argument for a later date. :thumb:

BTW, Pittman is 6'7, close to 6'8...not 6'6. ;)
