Owen Co. @ North Oldham Predictions

Featured Replies

Will Owen's Gayheart have back to back 30+ nights and take her team to victory or will North Oldham bounce back from their opening game loss and win this one at home?

How do you get a schedule of the games Pegasus Sports covers?

I posted my complete broadcast schedule on the radio / webcasts threads on both the boys basketball and girls basketball forums.

All broadcasts begin 1/2 hour before tipoff with a pregame show.

Unfortunately, North Oldham has never lived up to any of the pre-season hype and I do not look for this year to be any different. I think they will get better as the year goes on and may end up with a better record than last year.

Owen Co. should win this one easily.

Owen 66-40

Pre-season hype?? North Oldham's girls have never been hyped...they've never even had a winning record.

North Oldham always is mentioned in the preseason previews ( when a lot of teams are never mentioned.) That makes my expectations high and then unfortunately every year they striggle with injuries at the beginning of the season.

I would like to see them give SO and Oldham a run in their district. Maybe this year the previews will be right. Sorry.. maybe hype was not the right word.

I think they probably have gotten more ink than some schools because of their proximity to Louisville. Plus, every other sport at North has emerged recently as a power, it seems....their boys cross-country won the 2A state title this year, the football team is 18-6 with a district runner-up and a district championship finish over the past two years, the volleyball team won the district this year, both soccer teams are ranked just about every year, and the boys basketball team has won two district titles in the past three years.

Keep in mind that a lot of teams never get mentioned in previews because their coaches aren't always cooperative with all the different entities that want to do previews.

But the girls have struggled. Last year was the year many people thought they might break through and have their first winning season (I did), but even then, I think few observers really expected them to get out of the district because of Oldham and South Oldham. Then - with the team on a late-season roll - North suffered three devastating knee injuries to their PG (leading scorer), one of their best defensive players, and their best outside shooter, which pretty much ended their chances at making a dark-horse run at the region.

This year's North team has a number of new parts. One of the primary centers is a 5-11 senior who came over from the volleyball team this year. One of the primary scorers is a freshman. And they've had some nagging injuries early to three players, although at least two should be back in practice today. Coach Martin also has added two new assistant coaches, and she's noticeably excited about this team and its prospects. And she herself has the championship "pedigree" - the former Nancy Crutcher was a state champion X-C runner, and led the Oldham County Lady Colonels to the 1986 Sweet 16 championship in what might have been the most impressive title run ever - the Lady Colonels had to defeat three top 5 teams in their 4 game tournament run, including wins over #1 Southern, #2 Marshall County, and #5 Franklin-Simpson.

With Oldham and South both rebuilding, the 29th is wide open. Based on what I've seen so far, the rankings for the district would probably go like this:

South Oldham

North Oldham

Oldham County

Trimble County

Much may change, however. This district is very dynamic this year. South is loaded with freshmen - 5 of 11 on the varsity roster. They should develop nicely - but they're still freshmen, meaning inconsistency could be the rule. North has some solid players, and has a real opportunity this year if they jell and avoid more injuries, which seem to be their little black cloud. Oldham is adjusting to a new coach - the jury's really still out on them. I'd toss out their December scores as being totally irrelevant to how good that team may be. Trimble is still a bit of a mystery, but we'll know more soon enough. I'm broadcasting each 29th District seeding game, including the OC-Trimble DH on 12/19, the SO-Trimble DH on 1/10, and the NO- Trimble DH on 2/6...
