Final

Nice start to the season for a young, inexperience Briar Jumper team. Boyle County was shorthanded with their football players not out yet but they made a game of it. Somerset played extremely hard on defense--they forced 30 Rebel turnovers. Boyle County's offensive rebounding and a cold shooting stretch kept the Rebels in the game. Here's the scoring from the game:

Boyle County

Conner Givhan 2 points

Ty Southerland 5 points

Hunter Glasscock 13 points

Ben Carmen 7 points

Logan Tritapoe 21 points

Somerset

Derek Daniel 4 points

Josh Troxtle 6 points

Clayton Stringer 6points

Ryan Flanagan 5 points

JP Henderlight 10 points

Aaron Dockery 12 points

DJ Townsend 13 points

The Jumpers will probably take some lumps this season as they develop but after seeing the type of effort that they put forth tonight I think they'll win more games then people are expecting. The tough man to man defense and trying to push the ball on offense are much more fun to watch then the last couple of Briar Jumper teams. Also the team seems much more hardnosed than in the past. Nice start to the season Jumpers and welcome to Somerset Coach Daniel.

We will get better. Turnovers killed us, but we will get better. I was proud of the way we came back to make it a game late, but we fell just short. It's still early, we will get better in due time.

Good job Somerset

Did Corey Jones play? I really liked the way he played last year.

He played but didn't score.

Wow! Good defense by the jumpers. He scored 21 against East Jess. and will probably be one of our leading scorers this year. I have to say I am kind of surprised by this score even without the football players. I was talking to one of our assistant coaches yesterday and he was telling me how many players graduated from Somerset and even without the football players it was a game they could win. Congrats Somerset and your new coach. Hopefully we will have some football players come out and get us going.
