Arnolds two younger brothers played with him for the Tarheels. Holmes has a lot of talent coming up. It is scary for the ninth. Not to mention BABY GATES .

 

Baby Gates is huge. He's every bit as big as Pittman and he's only a freshman. I think this year and next year might be two of the biggest teams Holmes has ever seen. Next year they'll have 5 players at 6'5 or taller.

What sticks out to me is 4 of the 5 are gaurds with good ball skills. Thats hard to deal with on any level.

1st quarter: Holmes 20 Male 12

2nd quarter: Male 17 Holmes 16

3rd Quarter: Male 19 Holmes 17

4th quarter: Holmes 15 Male 15

 

Final: Holmes 68 Male 63

 

Game wasn't as close as the score might indicate.

 

Holmes subbed a lot the whole game, playing 11 kids, while Male stayed with the starters the whole game. Holmes only played their starters for the first quarter and 3 minutes in to the 2nd quarter and then Henley started sending waves of players in and out of the game, not playing more than 2 starters at a time the rest of the way.

 

Holmes starters outscored Male's starters 33-16 through the first half. Didn't really keep track the second half since Holmes only had their starting 5 in for maybe a total of 3 minutes.

 

1st quarter Holmes jumped out to an 8-0 lead and cruised behind put back dunks off the rim by Housely and Pittman.

 

2nd quarter Holmes opened up a 13-2 lead and then pulled everyone but Pittman, which was the reason for the close score. Ricardo Johnson didn't play at all in the 2nd or 3rd quarters.

 

3rd quarter Male jumped out to a quick 11-4 lead but Holmes went on a run and took a 13-11 lead before trading leads back and forth to end the quarter with Male winning by 2. Pittman I believe had 2 big 3's during their run and capped it with a power dunk in traffic over a 6'6 and 6'5 kid. (#44 and #40/42?)

 

4th quarter was back and forth with Rico Johnson leading the way. He showed why he is one of the best in the state. Male had nobody that could stop him and I believe he had 8 of Holmes 15 points.

 

All in all a good showing by both teams, but if Male is the 2nd/3rd best team in the region, the 7th really isn't as good as advertised.

 

BTW, #1 and #44 both looked good for Male as did #40. (Tall light skinned kid)

What I saw was a very talented and deep Holmes squad have their way in this scrimmage............. I agree that Male has some talent and will likely add to this with their footballers coming on making them a solid contender, but Holmes clearly overmatched them at this point. I will also suggest that this Holmes squad showed signs of lacking chemistry that I did not witness last year. The talent is obvious, they have plenty of maturing to do as the season progresses and someone must assume the loss of Henderson's leadership or they will lose a couple of games they shouldn't. If they build a "team" they really could be outstanding. BTW, no team will play "above the rim" like this team does!

Rico and Riley have to step up and assume the leadership roles. Riley will be handle the point and Rico IS the headliner. Must lead by example and take charge with the loss of Avery and Henderson. They just need to remember you don't have to be vocal to lead just look at Henderson he lead by example of the way he played every day in practice, in the games and most important every possession, he did not take plays off.

Male had a 6'6 kid (#40) and a 6'5 (#44) kid against Holmes. I can't remember either of them playing against SC, but then again I don't even remember what I did yesterday so I could be wrong.

Gates, the 6'6 freshman, plays freshman and JV. He didn't make the trip down to Male with the squad.

I agree. Rico has the ability to take over a game. He is tough to defend and proved it against Male. He had his way with anyone who tried to guard him. Riley didn't shoot the ball well in the scrimmage but his ability to handle the rock needs to be given more credit. He, along with Housely, make it tough for ANY team to put pressure on them.
