Basketball Games vs. Football State Semis

Featured Replies

Do schools generally try to reschedule basketball games when they conflict with State Semifinal or State Championship football games? Is that a normal practice?

I ask because Boyle County is scheduled to play at Somerset next Friday, but I was wondering if they will try to reschedule the game since the football team is playing at Bell County next Friday. If we happen to beat Bell County, then we are scheduled to play Southwestern the day of the 4A State Championship.

I know practice was canceled the day the soccer team played St. Xavier in the soccer State Semis, but would they reschedule a game?

Any thoughts or personal experiences to add? No Highlands folks who have been through it? Covington Catholic? Anyone?

The state finals being moved back a week last year and this year has made this conflict more possible. It should be resolved next year when the finals move back to the first weekend of December. Personally, I think the basketball season should start the Monday after the state football finals, just as baseball starts the Monday after the basketball state finals.

More to the point, I'm guessing the Boyle/Somerset game will be rescheduled.

Much agreed

I believe there shouldnt be any bye weeks in football. This would help football being over before basketball started.

:thumb: I agree, I have always thought the bye weeks were stupid.

St. X basketball team plays Thursday and Saturday this week.

Football semis against Trinity is Friday nite.

Are there any more basketball players still playing football?

From our freshman team to varsity, the last number counted was 14 total players.

3 from the freshman team(2 starters and the 6th man)

The jv is missing 3 of their 5 starters and important bench players

And the varsity is missing starting pg and starting c and important bench players.

It hurts our teams from top to bottom, but I was also wondering from the stand point that every Boyle County fan that I know is heading to the football game and I know the whole basketball team wants to be at the football game supporting the team also. I know they canceled the freshman game that was on Thursday and my son said they expect the game to be canceled on Friday.

Our season kicks off tomorrow night at East Jessamine.

I would think all schools would try to make sure that EVERY team is supported. If I were the AD or Principle, I'd move the Bball game too.
