Boyd County 33 Fairview 23

Featured Replies

Congratulations to Boyd Co. The Lions finish out the regular season as district champs and finishing the regular season at 6-4 / 3-0. This is a slight improvement from 2007 when BC finished 5-7 / 3-2.

Fairview completes a winning season too at 7-3 / 2-2…also a slight improvement from 07 when they went 6-5 / 2-3.

Also, I agree with the comments regarding presumptuous superiority based on school classification. Theoretically, larger schools should have greater pools of talent from which to select players, but we have so many examples of this not being the reality of it all.

Best of luck to both teams in the going deep in the upcoming second season.

I have seen Fairview do the same thing in the past. Like in 2002. Against Raceland. Like 56 to 6 Left the starters in the whole game. Good win for Boyd Co. Should move to Number 5 in the super 7. Don't you think. But, That is not the same coach that Fairview has now. He I don't think would do that.

Faiview left their starters in against our JV this year also. Except the score was going the other way.

Not a good game to be at. Boyd scores with 16 sec left could have take a knee?

This coming from a county fan? Take a knee??? I say score at all costs. I am sure they would do the same thing if the shoe was on the other foot. :dancingpa

It was 4th down, they had to run it or Fairveiw would have had time to run a couple of plays. It almost got almost got ugly when Boyd scored 20 unaswered points in 10 minutes, but the Eagles dug deep and mounted a nice comeback to keep it respectable.

Sounded like a good game! gives BC a winning record

ID say your right, like the rest of this post I was asking a question. Not making a statement, And your right I am a BC fan. But as you can tell some of these BC fans need to read before react.

Doesn't that sound like........"What goes around comes around?"

While there are certainly exceptions to the rule about larger class schools beating smaller class (Beechwood, Danville, etc...) I don't think any of us would argue that if you took the top 20 teams from 6A and played the top 20 from 1A that it would be lopsided in the won/loss column. Larger schools just have more athletes to choose from year in and year out. Now lets talk about the actual game!

Was thrilled to see Coach Evans finally use Arthur at quarterback and Wilson at running back and receiver, the offense for Boyd just seems to hum when this scenario is used. I hope Evans sticks with this in the playoffs. Arthur's qb rating is now something like 150 which is sick.

I was also impressed with how hard Fairview played and having no quit in them. Heck if Fairview doesn't drop that wide open pass in the end zone at the end of the 1st half it might have been a totally different game.

Nice win for Boyd and nice effort by Fairview going into the playoffs!

You have to consider the situation. Boyd had a 4th and short and if they would have taken a knee or not picked up the 1st they would have given Fairview the ball with time left on the clock and up less than a touchdown. I'm a Fairview fan but there is no way you take a knee there. They ran off tackle and Fairview didn't tackle him. No problem with BC or coach Evans on that one. Hard fought game with lots of mistakes both ways. Not the way you want to go into the playoffs. You want momentum and polish on the fundmentals. Congrats to both teams on successful seasons.

Why does everyone get caught up in classifications? If I took the top 15 players from Trinity, Saint X, Bole or Bell Co and put them on Fairviews team wouldn't they still be able to beat almost anyone in the state? People, what matters is the talent you have in the school and then how much of that talent you can get to play the game and then how well the coaching staff can bring it all together. The clasifications only tells how many kids you get to choose from which gives them a little advantage! I would say Beechwood a 1-A school could probably beat 90% of the 4-A schools in KY so how does the classifications matter that much?:ylsuper:

I disagree. There should be no question that if you are pulling from more kids then your chances go up a lot. The schools you name are exceptions to the rule. Most of those have advantages not enjoyed by others. Trinity and St X are all male and still much larger than coed schools. Being private gives advantages it is best not to get into here. Beechwood is in a densely populated area relative to the rest of the state and I'm sure they get their fair share of kids moving in that are good football players and want a shot at a title. Bell County is interesting because they don't fall into the same category as these others. All are very well coached. If you are a typical 1a school, by the end of the year injuries large and small will have a greater affect since depth is so affected by numbers. Many of the 1a schools have to share athletes with other sports and the facilities tend to get better as you move up in class. Their are many advantages. Year in and year out larger schools will be better in general.

I agree with you some what but you didn't add in the higher class teams that have a high number of students but a low number of athletes to pull from and those are the schools that seem to get hammered on here about classification match-ups. Our school has about 400 male students and we are 4-A but 85% of our male population is more interested in hunting, fishing and ATV riding than they are athletics or they have to get a job at a young age in order to help their family because of the economic status of our county. So, when you boil it down we have a athletic pool to draw from that is equal to most 1-A schools. I am not complaining because these are the facts of life but people need to understand that you shouldn't judge teams by classifications rather judge them by the talent they have and also factor in the support the program gets. This may answer the question as to why some higher class schools schedule lower class teams. Because high school football is suppose to be fun for the kids as well as the fans and no one wants to see blow outs every week. The funnest games to watch is the close ones and that is why a team should schedule teams that are relatively close in talent and not worry about classification!IMO!

Actually I think we fully agree. I fully understand what you are saying. There are socioeconomic reasons why, in my area, Greenup and Boyd will have problems competing with northern Kentucky or L'ville. I was speaking to generalities. The Ashland area has pretty much the same demographics so a Boyd will be better than a Fairview or Raceland over time. The smaller schools will sometimes have really good teams like Raceland does this year but year in and year out they won't be better just because of the numbers. Coaching can equalize things somewhat but ask any coach and he will tell you it is a lot easier being a good coach with good numbers and good athletes than fighting the numbers every year.

Does Boyd have another QB in line coming up thru the program.

This is definately true, my dad use to tell me it didn't matter how hard you trained your mule he will never win the KY derby!:D
