October 29, 200817 yr Author Jesus comes back in Revelations not as the Jesus we see in the Gospels. You do know that Revelations is a metaphor don't you. Or do you take the 7 heads and 7 crowns and 7 jewels stuff literally. The whole point of revelation was to couch it in terms so that the Romans wouldn't understand it, yet you take the river of blood and the four horsemen literally? Jesus talks about overthrowing the powers and prinicipalities, but in his own words he tells Peter to put away the sword because that is not of his kingdom. Did he lie to Peter?
October 29, 200817 yr Author First of all, Jesus wouldn't be flying a plane or wouldn't ave a bomb....he wouldn't need either one. As for anything else, not sure what Jesus would do but I am sure that he will protect Israel and I would feel sorry for anyone that goes against them. That is one of if not the main thing that worries me about Obama. He has stated that he wants to sit down and talk with people that have openly said they want to blow Israel off the face of the earth(whic will never happen, not my word...God's word). God said that he would Bless those that protect his people (Israel), that imo is the main reason why we have been blessed with the country that we have, the greatest country in the world. The United States has been Israel's biggest allie(spelling?) throughout history and the United States is the most blessed, greatest country in the world. Should one not believe that fact then I can't help you. Just take a look at some of these other countries, especially the ones that have went against Israel. If this is off topic then I apologize. I was just giving an example of why support some wars. Every place our troops are at protecting our freedom in this war on terror hates Israel. These animals have also done unspeakable acts against human beings along with attacking our nation on our soil. So Yes, I believe in supporting a cantidate that supports this war :thumb:.....we are at war with ones that want to destroy our way of life. This is one war that we MUST finish and win and not give in/surrender like one certain cantidate and his 20+ year friends (admitted terrorist, radical pastors that hate America) and some others wants to do. JMO So you deny all of Jesus teachings then to support your wars. You dehumanize his children by calling them animals and it makes it easier for you to rationalize war. All of Jesus teaching is anti - War.
October 29, 200817 yr Author Can you see Jesus taking money that you earn by force and then giving it away to people who refuse to work? Can you see Jesus accepting illegal campaign donations or enabling voter fraud by hiring an organization whose members had been convicted of voter fraud to help his get out the vote effort? Can you see Jesus associating with terrorists without actively working to get them to repent? McCain is not Jesus but neither is Obama. Maybe instead of comparing political leaders to Jesus, comparing them to other contemporary political leaders like Hugo Chavez, for example, would be more appropriate. So you can't answer my question and you throw out assumptions that you do not know if they are true or not to avoid answering the question. Why not just answer the question? FWIW - I see Jesus associating with everyone. He associated with Roman sympathizers, harlots, tax collectors, thieves on the cross, he associated with them all. He didn't just hang around the righteous or the self - rigtheous. Mostly he said "I come to bring good news to POOR. Curious that he didn't say, well only the poor who are not lazy. He said I come to bring good news to the POOR all of them, every last one.
October 29, 200817 yr Author acemona, I am sure that you have little respect for the Catholic Church, but I think it would be of interest to you to see Thomas Aquinas's Just War Theory. It provides criteria to go to war, guidelines on ethical action during war, and the most ethical way to end a war. I have lots of respect for the catholic church and think it is probably the most powerful force for social justice among christian organizations in the world. I also have great respect for Thomas Aquinas (philosophy minor) but what does Thomas Merton and other catholics say about war. What does Tony Campolo say (I know he is not a saint, but he is a social conservative).

He seeks to take money that belongs to me and my family and give it to his constituents who pay no federal income taxes. Jesus was not in favor of thievery he advocated charity. Liberals tend to confuse the two concepts.
October 29, 200817 yr Author :thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb: Great post, Obama and some of his supporters seem to think that he his. Those are in for a very rusde awakening egardless of this election outcome. As I have said all along, forget all of Obama's policies (and I dislike 99.9% of them). Look at who he associates himself with and has for an great number years, only recently cutting ties (supossedly:sssh:). This man, his friends, associates (and at least one family member) are dangerous in many ways. JMO I do not know one Obama supporter who thinks he is the messiah, but I certianly know that he is neither Satan nor the anti-Christ as others have made him out to be. FWIW if you play the guild by association game where would you put Jesus with all of the people he hung out with? It certainly wasn't the religious establishment of his day and it was the government. So who did he hang out with?

Jesus was not in favor of thievery he advocated charity. Liberals tend to confuse the two concepts. Still no answer to the original question. Got it. More name calling. Got it. he told the rich young ruler that if we wanted to be right with God to sell everything he had and give it to the poor. If Jesus tells you that you HAVE to do it to be right, is it then charity? Jesus also said to render unto Ceasar what is Ceasars and much of the taxes collected in Rome went to promote the free circuses and etc., for the poor in the community.
October 29, 200817 yr Could you see Jesus flying a plane and dropping a bomb that killed people? If not, then how can you support a candidate who supports war? Do you deny that God said 'love your enemy, bless those who curse you. . . turn the other cheek'? How do any of these line up with the concept of war?[/QUOTE] I dunno, but God seems to be fine with condemning souls to burn in misery forever in Hades, which sounds a lot worse than war to me.

So, are you saying Christians shouldn't vote in this election?
October 29, 200817 yr There has never been a pacifist president and this election is no different. While one may oppose the conflict in Iraq while the other did not, neither opposed the action in Afghanistan. The world in which we currently live does not and will not support a completely pacifist president. It's an interesting idea and so completely radical that I can't even envision what that might be like. :thumb:

The Book of Revelation is largely made up of prophecy about the future. I do know that.
October 29, 200817 yr Author The Book of Revelation is largely made up of prophecy about the future. I do know that. And it is written as a metaphor. No one takes all of the stuff literally until we get to the part about Armegeddon and then all of a sudden it is word for word.
October 29, 200817 yr So you deny all of Jesus teachings then to support your wars. You dehumanize his children by calling them animals and it makes it easier for you to rationalize war. All of Jesus teaching is anti - War. So if you're 100% anti-war, what would your response have been to 9/11? Just sit there and tell the terrorists to hit us again? (turn the other cheek).
October 29, 200817 yr Obama is a thief, IMO. He seeks to take money that belongs to me and my family and give it to his constituents who pay no federal income taxes. Jesus was not in favor of thievery he advocated charity. Liberals tend to confuse the two concepts. Amen. It is amazing how liberals who claim Christianity conveniently "spin" the scripture. Jesus advocated being charitable, however, he did not force it on people.
October 29, 200817 yr And it is written as a metaphor. No one takes all of the stuff literally until we get to the part about Armegeddon and then all of a sudden it is word for word. People get too caught up in arguing over whether it should be taken "literal" or not. It's a complicated book, no doubt. There are metaphors, symbolism, etc. But, we can know what many of them allude to because they fall in line with Old Testament prophecies. The Book of Revelation cannot be understood independent of the rest of the Bible. So, some people say you have to take it all literal. Yet, in reality, they themselves don't even do that. Others try to spiritualize it away to avoid the fact that it speaks of the future. The fact is, we should take the Bible literally, when it lends itself to that (i.e., if the literal reading makes sense, then don't try to complicate it). But, when there is an obvious symbol (and I'm sorry, I can't give an example right now), then we have to try to figure out what it means. The book is way to complex to be narrowed down to and either/or argument between "literal" and "metaphor". But, I digress. The thread isn't about the Book of Revelation.
