Hensley Rating System 1A Top 15 (2008 Edition #1)

Featured Replies

Ladies and gentlemen, it is once again that time of year for me to break out the Hensley Rating System for Kentucky high school football.

The Hensley Rating System is a simple system as it combines the power ratings from the Lexington Herald-Leader's Cantrall Ratings and the Louisville Courier-Journal's Litkenhous Ratings. Once those two are combined, the average is then taken and that average is the number that is used in the HRS.

This is something that I have done for that last couple of years for the playoffs and attempted to do last year during the regular season but my school work came in the way of constantly posting it.

Some of you may agree with how the standings for each class and the state come out while there will be others that disagree and say that your team should be higher. Please remember that this is just the average of the Lit and Cantrall Ratings.

Also, this should NOT be considered an official BGP poll/ranking OR how I think teams should be ranked. This is just something that I like to do in my spare time.

So with all of that out of the way, here is the Top 15 Hensley Rating for Class 1A:

1. Beechwood 91.50

2. Raceland 76.25

3. Lexington Christian 74.85

4. Frankfort 71.40

5. Hazard 65.15

6. Holy Cross (Louisville) 63.10

7. Fairview 59.15

8. Mayfield 56.70

9. Williamsburg 56.70

10. Crittenden County 54.65

11. Bellevue 53.65

12. Pikeville 53.40

13. Campbellsville 49.45

14. Paintsville 46.00

15. Eminence 45.95

Its amazing how much higher BW is than everyone else.

The most recent AP poll for 1A:

1. Beechwood (17) 8-0 188 1

2. Raceland (2) 7-0 171 2

3. Frankfort - 6-1 136 4

4. Hazard - 5-2 98 3

T5. Lou. Holy Cross - 5-2 88 8

T5. Williamsburg - 7-1 88 7

7. Lex. Christian - 5-3 78 5

8. Fairview - 6-1 71 9

9. Crittenden Co. - 6-2 51 10

10. Bellevue - 6-2 49 6

Others receiving votes: 11, Eminence 14. 12, Mayfield 8. 13, Pikeville 2. 13, Paintsville 2.

This really doesn't suprise me. And it's pretty close to what the AP has. Besides, polls and opinions are meaningless when the whistle blows on friday night. Got to play it between the lines.

I imagine the Mayfield faithful will be happy and the Crittenden County fans will not. It does spark conversation when a team such as CC is ranked below a team they have already beaten (Mayfield).

It doesn't make me happy as a Mayfield fan really, I don't think we should be in any rankings with the season we have had. I guess it goes by strength of schedule? Mayfield has played a stronger schedule than Crittenden but since Crittenden has beaten Mayfield I would have probably put them 1 ahead of Mayfield.

Remember that the numbers that I provide are simply the avergae of the Cantrqall Ratings and the Lit Ratings.

I would put Beechwood that much higher than everyone else

Just wondering, what other 1A schools have you seen play that are in the top 10? I have seen 6, including BW and I'm not so sure they are 20 points above the others.

I know, not blaming your method, it is probably all the Lit Ratings fault, since they seem to be out in left field half of the time. :D

I'm not saying BW shouldn't be #1, just not that much above Raceland and LCA.
