I am a little close to the situation, and know that there was not many who wanted the job. Capel asked me if I was interested early in the school season. IMO Davis probably did not like the list of candidates he had to choose from and with time running out, he took the team.

 

I know he did the same thing last year for the 8th grade girls team when they had no coach. Howard did a nice job with them and had them playing hard by the end of the season. Hopefully he can get these boys to play hard for him by the end of the season as well.

I think that the interest was low because no one knew the position was available. There are only 20 or so HC positions in the 9th Region--there would have been some interest. I know there was some interest very late in the process.

Also, coaching 8th grade girls and coaching varsity are worlds apart. Although it is admirable for him to step in when needed two years in a row and I can't believe that they couldn't have found anyone else to coach.

Ryan St. Blanchard. Rick St. Blanchard I believe is the older one and played the #2 scorer I believe when Jackson Capel was still there; he assisted Offut last year. Jacob St. Blanchard I think is the younger ones name, and I think he is only a freshman or maybe even an 8th grader....

I agree with your comment that it was not well publicized. However, I do not know who/if any interviews were given. I realize there is a huge difference in coaching 8th grade girls and varsity boys. However, in his past, I believe Howard has coached at the varsity level.
