Anybody here own a Dane, I'm fixing to own in a couple of months, just curious if anyone else has one with some experiences.

Yup I've got 2 of them, 1 male and 1 female. Whats your questions...

I don't but they are gorgeous dogs and if we had the right amount of room for them in and out we would get one.

My sister has one. They're awesome dogs. They have a very good temperment. My sister had family over a few weeks ago, and the dane did great with all the chaos. We walked over to watch the fireworks, and he just laid down across the blanket, and my daughter laid back on him. Since then, my wife has been bugging me about buying one. I think it's safe to say we'll get one sometime next year. Just make sure you don't find the best deal out there if you truly want a Dane. Do your homework on the breeder, and make sure all papers are present, and even the parents.

Yeah, that was my first lesson. I plan to buy from a professional breeder, I expect to pay $900 - $1,500 for a Dane. I would like to be able to go back and ask them questions later and I feel they as breeders will always be there to help you out if you buy from a reputable one.

I've been a member of some Dane forums for the past couple of months and my greatest concern/fear is BLOAT. I'm not sure if they as breeders blow it out of proportion or if it is really that common for a Dane or any large breed to aquire this potentially fatal attack. Has your Danes ever had it and what do you feed them. The feeding issue is another thing that I have been seriously debating, Kibble or BARF.

It was a big concern with us as well. But its just if you dont manage their food. If you just sit a huge bowl of food out there, they'll just keep eating and eating. Mine are 11 months and 6 months and we feed them 2 times a day, AM and PM. They look skinny for the longest time but its just where they grow so fast. They say that it is good that they are that way though because you dont want to create too much stress(weight) on their hips and legs. We feed them Purina Dog chow (11month) and Puppy Chow (6 month). Our vet told us that your pup should be on puppy chow for the 1st year, we went kind of early with the first one but our second is still on it and doing great!

3- PLEASE tell me you don't live in an apartment, or if you do, that you have plenty of time for a Great Dane. The girl who used to live upstairs from me had a Great Dane, and she was gone ALL THE TIME! The poor thing howled and scratched for hours and hours EVERY day! She didn't walk him but twice in the year that she lived there. I've never felt sorrier for a dog in my life!

Oh...and be prepared to clean up a lot of doody....as big as horse doody!

The Great Dane was a beautiful, loving dog though. I just personally think it's incredibly cruel to not spend time with it, or make sure the space you have available for it is adequate for good excercise, etc.

My sister feeds her Dane Nutro Max and green beans. He gets a can of green beans with every meal.

To add to this, Dane's need a lot of attention. They will have a tendency to have separation anxiety if not given enough attention.

Here are some pictures of the pups. Black one is Laila and the Grey one is Deuce.

Thanks for the pics. My sister also has a blue one.

yup, he was the pricey one of they two. His dad weighed in at 190 and his mom was 170. Laila's dad was 170 and mom was 140. She is a much more slender dane as to where he is more to the masive side. And I do know that it's color is "blue" and not "grey" but everyone around says grey so my wife and I just went along instead of explaining everytime!:)
