September 22, 200818 yr I think that Phil Simms has a point. Kick the thing, you have to get down there twice anyway. Frankly, if not for Colon's holding penalty after he whiffed on third down late in the 3rd quarter, they backed up out of FG range and had to punt. Had they had that score it was a FG game and who knows how it may have played out after that. Basically the D gives up 13 points(pretty outstanding considering how long they were on the field) and the O lays an egg. None of it may have mattered anyway with the lack of protection. But I agree with your point. I for the life of me don't understand that decision. I agree w/ the Sports Guy that coaches need an 18 year old kid that's played over 1 million games of Madden to help them at the end of games sometimes. I can't figure out if Tomlin thought they could get 10 points in one posession.
September 22, 200818 yr I take solace in the fact the Colts also lost ... Another bone headed coaching decision in that one. It really can't be that hard to figure out how to manage the clock. They got jobbed on the pass interfernece call, but they could have run the clock out before scoring.
September 22, 200818 yr The Steelers stunk. D played well and special teams played well, but Philly's D blitzed the Steelers silly. O-line stunk, plain and simple. The new center is no better than the old center. The right tackle Colon is flat out awful. How can you rush 8 and not find a hot read. This one is on the O-line, WR and Off.Coordinator. Many times they had WR within 5 feet of one another and even running into one another. Frankly, if Baltimore doesn't send the house at Ben, I'd be surprised. Steelers could easily end up 2-2 on Monday night if they don't fix some major flaws in 6 days time. I look for the Baltimore score on Monday to be 9-6. Cointoss as to who wins. BTW, the board wasn't available yesterday or there would have been a thread on it. So you can give the "absent Steeler fans" bit a rest. Considering how bad the Steelers O-line was last year, I'm surprised every team they play doesn't bring major pressure. If Pittsburgh can't run the ball effectively, they're in trouble until their offensive line proves it can stand up to the pressure. And, that's why I never bought into the "Steelers are the best team in the AFC talk" after two weeks. Until they convince me they're good enough in the trenches, I can't see them as a favorite to make the Super Bowl.

I watched Denver yesterday, frankly, I think they are suspect in many areas, same with Buffalo. FWIW, I think it's a total tossup in that conference this season. As for the Steelers, their D will keep them in most if not all games. But I agree, to anoint them with anything but the title of contender is simply silly.

I don't think Buffalo or Denver will win the AFC either. I just thought it was way too early to declare Pittsburgh the favorite based on one or two games. The analysts overreact to the first two or three games every year and anoint some team the Super Bowl favorite. In the 2003 season, Buffalo (with Drew Bledsoe) beat New England 31-0 to open the season and the ESPN guys were all over that, anointing Buffalo as the AFC East favorite. They finished the year 6-10...New England lost again in Week 4 and finished 17-2 with a Super Bowl ring. Two games against the Texans and Browns isn't enough to erase the concerns about their line play. Denver - Cutler is great, the offense is great. I don't think the defense is good enough for them to win the AFC, and I don't think they have the potential to reach that level. Buffalo - I like their potential better than Denver if the team and certain players continue to develop. The offensive line is very good, Lynch is a stud and Edwards continues to improve and looks like the real deal. The defense is young but has the potential to be really good. Pittsburgh - The offense is set everywhere except the line, and that's going to be their undoing if they don't improve. Defensively, they look solid but not dominant.

Frankly, I think whomever is the hottest and least injured that qualifies for the playoffs will win. Flip a coin at this point. Titans with Collins may advance. J'ville with their D may advance. Indy looks old, and without Sanders, the D is average at best. Heck, I wouldn't count out the Jets and that QB they have,,,,forgot his name.:creepy:
