JCPS Cancels all athletics for week

Featured Replies

I was under the impression teams had to play 9 games to qualify for the playoffs. They also HAVE to play all district games. I would expect the late season schedules in Jefferson County to get shuffled around a bit to make it all work out.
I've never heard of the nine-game rule. Teams do have to play all the other teams in their district, though.

Sorry, GC, but not so. The KHSAA rules only say that to be eligible for postseason, you have to play all the teams in your district. If that's all you want to play, I suppose that'd be OK, although it doesn't do much for the team — or for the athletic budget. Could be some of these schools will have to cancel another game to make up a district game.

Because Valley and Fairdale have to play ... it's a district game.

And football coaches think it's inherently unsafe to play two games in a week. That is why nobody does it.

My buddy at Western is in a real pickle. They now have to make up a district game with Atherton. Atherton's open week is this week, Western is scheduled to play another district game - Fairdale. Western's open week is the same day as the Atherton/Valley district game. Either both Western and Atherton will have to cancel non-district games (creating problems for both opponents), or will have to play at a later date during the week.

Thanks guys. I guess you never see teams play less than 9 anyone, especially with the bye week giving an extra chance to squeeze in another game. As westsider said, playing district games is a must. As thegeneral said, playing a limited number of games doesn't help the team or the budget.

For what it's worth, Atherton and Western could play on October 31 and let Iroquois and Spencer County (the two teams who would lose a game) square off against each other.

I suspect we'll see some similar quick-pairings in future weeks.
