Congratulations to the Eagles on their 2-0 start. In 2 weeks though I believe the Eagles will know where their football team stands when powerhouse Cov Cath comes to the Eagles Nest for a game. This will show Scotts Coaches what they need to work on and improve on. I am not saying they won't have a chance to win but this will be the first test of the year.

 

One other thing that I would like to stress to all Scott Coaches is when you have alumni come to games to support the team don't run them off the sideline especially when they aren't doing anything wrong.

I'm not a member of the coaching staff, but a fellow alumni like yourself. I can tell you for sure that while having alumni around might not seem like an issue for you, it can be a distraction. Coach Campbell and his staff take coaching very seriously. They want to remain completely and intensely focused and demand that all the players do the same, especially during the games. If you would like to be involved, I would advise you to contact Coach Campbell and see if there is something you could do to positively contribute to the team.

I understand what you are saying about it being a distraction but when they are just standing there behind the bench on the track which really isn't the sideline I don't believe they should have to leave especially if they are not doing anything wrong. As for wanting to do something for the program I have done more for that program probably than anyone else in the history of the program financially and voluntary but that was in the past and I can tell you one thing they will not see another dime from me or get anymore voluntary help ever. I went to school their and so did my wife and I have had kids graduate from there that played the game for the Eagles.

If you love the program so much (and I'm not doubting that you do) what's the big deal then in standing somewhere else or taking a seat in the stands? Obviously for whatever reason the Scott coaches didn't want you and other alumni standing on the sidelines. Perhaps they have good reasons, bad reasons or even no reason. Several years ago, Mueller "closed" a small section of standing area on the Highlands sidelines. The regulars weren't happy about it, but took it in stride and moved elsewhere in the stadium. I hope you reconsider your decision to stop supporting the Eagles over something, to me, as trivial as from where you get to watch the game. Admittedly I don't have a dog in this hunt, other than someone that has always pulled for the Eagles. I'm hopeful that the new coach is the guy to do that and now is when the kids and the coaches needs more support, not less support. :thumb:

 

PS. as to the decision, Highlands has had a closed sideline for quite some time. Shutting down the small area was the last spot on the sidelines that had been open (and it wasn't even actually field level). There must be something to why the coaches want to keep the sidelines closed. I'd give your coach the benefit of the doubt.

I understand they are not a part of the team this year but they will always be a part of the Eagles team from the past and like I said they should not be treated like kids anymore and the Coach could have showed more respect towards them and politely asked them to leave the sidelines. I want everyone to know this was not Coach Campbell that was involved it was one of his assistants. I wish them luck the rest of the way this year and in the future, but I will not be attending or supporting the Eagle Football Program anymore now or in the future.

Sorry, SHS. I didn't mean anything personally in this. It sounds like from your later posting that there was more to the story than what I read in your early posting regarding this. I definitely don't know the particulars of whatever happened. However, you have to remember that this is your school and your family's school. You shouldn't let the actions of an individual in this matter get to you. You'll always be an alumni of the school and you should be proud of this. You should also probably realize that these people are working hard to change the program and get it to be the best it can be. These guys don't know any alumni or the school history or the contributions you have made to the school in the past. We, as alumni, are emotionally involved with the school and the history and the families like ours who have went through the system. If I had an incident like yours I'm sure that my feelings would be hurt a little over this, too. I can only tell you that all of these coaches seem committed to improving the football program at Scott. All of the varsity coaches are teachers in the school as well. I can also tell you that these guys take this very seriously. I hope you would understand their position in this. If it was communicated poorly that was unfortunate. It would be sad if you let this incident ruin your feelings toward the program or the school.

I think all fields should be closed to anyone who is not a coach, player, media, administrator, or someone doing work during the games. It's great to have support, but it is a distraction which is understandable. The track is a part of the field in my opinion. There are gates set up for a reason, therefore it should be upheld. Many schools in the past used to issue field passes to people, which allowed them to stand on the field. Maybe Scott High School should look into that. As for standing behind the bench on the track, I think that is a bad place to be for anyone not on the team. The team box runs from the 25 to 25. Nothing wrong with standing outside the team box to watch a game. I think a coach has every right to tell someone to leave his team box or sideline area if he feels as if it could be a distraction. Players on the sideline who know the alumni may have the tendancy to turn around and chatter with them when they should be focusing on the game.
