September 2, 200818 yr Author The bolded part is about as germane as her husband getting a DUI over a long time ago. Not sure I understand why you think she was not at the top of the list. I think she is a fabulous choice. We will find out 9 weeks from today.
September 3, 200818 yr From CNN's Jack Cafferty Was Governor Sarah Palin properly vetted? There's a growing sense that John McCain may not have done all his homework before making his V.P. pick. Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is now grabbing headlines for all the wrong reasons: her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is pregnant. Palin has hired a private lawyer in the "trooper gate" ethics investigation. She was for the bridge to nowhere before she was against it. Palin appeared at a convention of the Alaska Independence Party — which tried to get votes on whether the state should secede from the union. Her husband was arrested 22 years ago on a DUI. And, although Palin is now railing against earmarks, she got hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding for local projects as both governor and as mayor of Wasilla. There's more. What about her foreign policy credentials? CNN's Campbell Brown repeatedly asked McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds last night why Palin is ready to be commander-in-chief, what qualifications she has, and to name one foreign policy decision Palin has made – Campbell never got an answer. It's reported that Palin may have only traveled overseas once, last year to Germany and Kuwait. In my opinion, there are alot of Republicans who are very nervous right now. Most of the ones I've talked to seem to think Palin is going to really hurt McCain's chances. Of course there's no turning back now, so McCain along with the rest of the party are going to continue to down play all the negative. I watched that interview with Campbell Brown and she got an answer. It just wasnt't the answer that she wanted to hear, so she kept repeating it hoping to get the answer she wanted. She kept asking if Palin was the best choice the Republicans had. The answer was, she is the choice that McCain made. She asked if she was the most qualified that the Republicans had (well no, the most qualified would be Father Bush). And the answer was, she is the choice that McCain made. Campbell was upset that she tried to put a Republican on the spot and was not able to get an answer to make them look bad. Funny, that Palin's husbands DUI 22 years ago is getting more press than Obama admitting to doing cocain about the same time. And there is a lot of Democrats going to the theory of throw as much mud as you can and some will stick somewhere. We don't know what it will be or whether it really is important but we have to throw as much mud as possible. Is a 22 year old DUI by her husband really the best that the Dems have against her?
September 3, 200818 yr There were some very shall we say "inappropriate" pictures of Palin that hit the web today, as well.
September 3, 200818 yr There were some very shall we say "inappropriate" pictures of Palin that hit the web today, as well. Candidate or daughter?
September 3, 200818 yr The candidate. :sssh: Are you sure they are not the pictures she posed for in Vogue?? With a Dem tilt that they are something more than that?
September 3, 200818 yr I agree that Palin was not at the top of McCain's list. I would like to know just how far down she was and what reasons the others gave for turning down the #2 slot. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm undecided on who I am voting for, but whoever is running the McCampaign is not doing him any favors. I talked to a lifelong Republican over the weekend who said his campaign direction and decisions makes it hard to vote for McCain. I think they knew her daughter was pregnant. How could they not? Of course, it always helps when the news breaks on the same day a major hurricane is slamming New Orleans again. I'll give the McCain people credit on this one. I'm curious to hear her answer on the teen pregnancy issue because you know it's going to get asked in the debates. I'm much more interested in hearing her response to that as opposed to whether or not Biden plagiarized a speech a long time ago. I agree with everything you've said, except I do not believe anyone turned down the nomination. As soon as the night before/day of Tim Pawlenty was making typical preparations as though he were the chosen one. Palin came out of left field, and I largely attribute that to a desperate effort on the part of strategists within the McCain campaign worried about quelling Obama and the convention.

How can you say came out of LF when her name was mentioned as early as June??? A McCain team member was asked by CNN how she could have been vetted properly when the team did not go up there till the day before. The McCain member told the news person that trip was for the media's benefit. That wasn't the only vetting going on of her. Just the first time they let the media know it was going on. The media is simply upset that they didn't know what they think is their right to know. EVERY THING going on. CNN and NBC were complaining all day on Friday how they believed the Reps were misleading them and not giving them the right secret information on what was going on and who McCain was choosing. But I did not remember seeing that same whining when Obama would not give out any secret information.
September 3, 200818 yr Are you sure they are not the pictures she posed for in Vogue?? With a Dem tilt that they are something more than that? Yeah, I'm pretty sure these pictures didn't appear in Vogue. Trust me.

A popular political odds site that I frequent (and wager on) had four options for McCain's veep nomination: Romney, Pawlenty, Lieberman, and the field. The field (which included Palin) was at about 3-4%. Not exactly the probability of an expected pick.

NBC was the ONLY ONE that whined about how they were being treated. They said McCain's staff was purposely misleading them and that it would come back to haunt them. One even said that they felt they were receiving comments intent to mislead them and the next time that same source gave them information they were just going to ignore it. That they way they were being treated would backfire on the McCain staff and they would have to answer for it. It was amazing. Even my students thought it was something else on how the stories were tilted different from NBC, CNN, and Fox. It lead into a great discussion in not believing what you see on television of read on the Internet but research to get mulitple sources before you believe things. And then see if they pass the smell test.
