Final was 34-20 Mentor.

2 of Mooney's three TD's came on very short fields. We are talking less than 30 yards to the endzone. One was on one of our guys fumbling at about our own 25 yard line. The other came on bad coverage on a kickoff. They got to about the 28.

IN short, our special teams sucked royally and made the game closer than it should have been.

Mooney had one great drive which didnt result in a score. Turnover on downs at the end of it. They had another long drive which was made up of mostly great runs by Heard who was VERY impressive. One was a very very long run.

Overall I liked our D. Shut them out in the first half. Hard to deal with 2 less than 30 yard fields. I think at the very least they will keep us from having to score a million points. I mean last years D gave up 21 and that was without miscues setting up short fields.

I loved our O. Great mix of the pass and run. Oline needs work but that always happens with us. Fracci had a nice ball when he wasn't under Mooney's great rush (probably had 8 or 9 sacks but 4 of them were from him not throwing the ball away/holding on too long). It exceeded my expectations though on O because we had 5 very strong sustained long drives.

The above is from www.yappi.com

This score is important because CovCath plays Mooney next week and it makes the game a near must win for Mooney against the Colonels.

I believe Mark Pike's nephew starts for Mentor. Mentor is either the biggest or 2nd biggest school in OH.

From talking to someone close to the situation last week Mentor beating Mooney was expected. Mooney will be really tough for the Colonels but they are not as good as last year and Mentor is tough as you know what.

Are you talking about Cardinal Mooney in Youngstown? I used to live in Youngstown(Suburb).High school football in that area is excellent.

Correct, Youngstown Cardinal Mooney. They play 5A BGP #2 CCH next week in the Herbie.

Mentor is very good. They are the largest public school in Ohio. CovCath is going into a buzzsaw next week in Canton against Mooney.

From the Youngstown Vindicator:

Mooney dropps a 34-20 decision against Mentor.

From the Willougby News-Herald:

Still a good hand, Cards beat Mooney

There were plenty of questions surrounding the Mentor football team heading into the start of the 2008 season, not the least of which was how Coach Steve Trivisonno’s squad would react to “LAB” — Life After Bart.

Friday night at Jerome T. Osborne Sr. Stadium, the Cardinals provided a lot of answers to a lot of questions, and quarterback Anthony Fracci responded as well as any player wearing scarlet and gray.

Following in the giant footsteps left by the graduation of 2007 Mr. Football Bart Tanski, all Fracci did in his varsity debut was complete 22 of 32 passes for 222 yards without throwing an interception and had a hand in four of Mentor’s five touchdowns in an impressive 34-20 victory over visiting Cardinal Mooney.
