It would be nice to see some of these schools come off of the list this year, in any of the categories. When replying, comment on teams you think could be removed a year from now!

That's actually really interesting. I know football, but not really the history behind these state teams. From the way people talked, I figured Rockcastle Co. had won a championship or two.

Many of those schools without playoff wins are fairly young programs. It must certainly, however, be disappointing for the fans of those programs to never experience the excitement of a playoff victory.

A playoff game ending in a tie????

A playoff game ending in a tie????

Wasn't uncommon in the early days of state playoffs. Any guesses as to how the winner was determined? Overtime...please! Penetrations, the number of first downs achieved by each team during the game, was what determined who went on to the next round! Imagine if that happened today? BGP would probably explode!

Below are the times when that actually happened. Team listed first advanced:

1963 - AA - First Round - Cumberland 7, Jenkins 7

1964 - A - First Round - Elkhorn City 7, Paris 7

1964 - A - First Round - Lynch East Main 6, Williamsburg 6

1965 - A - First Round - Lloyd Memorial 13, Mount Sterling 13

1965 - A - Semifinals - Lloyd Memorial 13, Fleming-Neon 13

1968 - A - First Round - Frankfort 14, Bardstown 14

1972 - A - First Round - Pikeville 22, Lynch 22

So in 1965 Lloyd Memorial went to the State Championship Game because they had more 1st downs then Fleming-Neon? What a bummer. Bet that made alot of fans mad.

Actually, in 1965 Lloyd Memorial made it all the way to the state finals without actually winning a game. Both the first round "win" and semifinal "win" were based on the tiebreaker rule. The soundly defeated Old Kentucky Home (27-0) to cement the title.

Hey, you guys are in an elite club with Boone County!:thumb:

Seriously though, Somerset has so many near misses. They always have good teams. Hopefully one of these years (preferably one where they don't play Garrard;)) they'll leave that group.
