Cooper ran lots of option out of the gun, and most of their passing plays were ran from trips sets.

Was this scrimage really beneficial to either team?

Didn't look like Cooper had quite the numbers for a 6A squad, which I would expect for a program just starting up Heck, I only counted 61 for Dixie which is down from last year even after Dixie had about 16 leave/quit the team.

 

Saw some good fan support for Cooper at the Dixie scrimmage as well.

 

If the 61 didn't include frosh, that's still a pretty good number of players for a 5A school I would think. I didn't know that 16 had left/quit. Is Tom making practices tougher and demanding more out of his players?

Dixie lost some kids? Wow, that has to hurt. How did the scrimmage go by the way?

 

I was speaking about last year's numbers with regards to the numbers that left team or quit. Team numbers this year seemed even lower.

 

With regard to scrimmage, Based on what I saw, they will have to rely on athleticism on the offensive line. Running back position looks to be better than I expected. Spritzky used 4 different backs in the scrimmage with success. Passing attack was OK on screens but not so crisp on out or post patterns. Only once did I see a receiver stretch the field and it was a running back. QB Ryan did a real good job on his pass progression, many times able to go to his 2nd and 3rd option.

 

Defensively they looked better than I expected. Again not very big but have some guys that can "stick". They will have to rely on quickness here as well. I see many more going both ways this year. They were stung a couple of times by big pass plays.

 

Now with all this being said, Dixie was scrimmaging a new school starting up a new program. We'll see what happens next week against NCC.

I doubt there were any Dixie freshman standing on the sidelines. This year's 61 is down from previous years. The numbers I gave regarding guys that left/quit team was from last season.

Went up to Cooper's field tonight. There is quite a bit of concrete, fencing, and general cleanup and maintenance that needs to be done. I can't imagine it would be ready to play on September 5th against Ryle and won't be surprised if that game gets moved to Ryle. The stadium itself is a carbon copy of Ryle (not field turf) and, once done, will look nice. Field looks okay. About what you'd expect trying to grow grass around this area in the middle of summer.

 

On another note, the baseball field looks like it will be very nice. Haven't seen a high school field with that much foul territory and room behind home palte in quite a while. The infield has already come in fairly thick.
