#1 - Newport Central Catholic defeated a tenacious Beechwood team tonight 2-0 , 25-18 , 25-12 .

It was certainly a pleasure to meet you tonight KYTmcNcc, as well as our other friends at NCC.

It is no secret that our girls have been struggling this year, and I must confess that I dreaded this game tonight.

However, our NCC hosts were very gracious and, for the first time tonight, our girls stepped up and played their hearts out. Very good to see. Beechwood girls...........you were awesome! Good to know we are back on track!:thumb:

Thanks NCC for all the kind hospitality and good luck with the rest of your season.

Go Tigers!

They certainly do. Mr. BWF deserved that one though. It was payback for a joke he played on Kaela Freppon a couple of years back.

To those who weren't there, last year Mr. BWF and I were at an awards ceremony. Upon congratulating Ms. Freppon, he put on her varsity jacket and had his picture taken with Kaela and Alyx. Anyone who knows us knows what die hard Beechwood people we are.

The Freppons made many copies of the picture of Mr. BWF in his NCC jacket and posted them all over the gym. Very funny. We both got a huge laugh out of that one.

What up?

Campbell defeats Ryle (0-3) in three and Highlands needs three to defeat Dixie?

Lloyd defeats Conner in two and Calvary falls to Simon Kenton (2-2) in two games.

Slow start for the Birds last night, looked like they wanted to throw the game away in the first last night. The second two gams weren't even a competition.

While still a good, solid team, Ryle does not look as tough this year as in recent years.

Lloyd is definitely a team to watch out for this year. I think that's a credit to the great coach that they have that has really turned that program around.

The Tigers really battled last night. The first game was a great one until NCC got close to 21 points then it seemed Beechwood died. Good game by the Tigers, truely showed heart. But NCC is too stacked with Schulte, Freppon, #28, and the Freshman Snyder.

True. However, for me, it felt like a win. Our girls have had a rough couple of months and it showed in their play since the season began. However, last night they really came together and played well. I hope they keep it up and continue to improve.:thumb:

In the paper this morning they stated that NCC plays Louisville Mercy Monday . I believe that is incorrect . I think that they have a tri-match against Cincinnati Mercy and Roger Bacon Monday night at the Sauna on the Hill.

The KHSAA site shows St. Henry with wins over McAuley and Bishop Waterson from Columbus. Good showing by the Cru.

There were no scores reported, however, for the Sacred Heart and Mount Notre Dame matches. Does anyone know these results?

This is correct. The paper has had many misprinted mistakes as of late in regards to scheduling.

St Henry defeated McAuley pretty handidly and played 3 to beat Watterson on Sat.

How good is the Seton team that NDA beat?

They have a very good defense, in my opinion. Unfortunately, they hit a number of ball out of bounds though which cost them. It was their first game of the season though so maybe they just needed to get over the first game jitters.

Following is a post from an Ohio poster on PrepVolleyball.com. Good to see some Ky teams beating up on the Ohio teams. :thumb:

WestsideAviator #10 writes....

A couple of Northern KY teams had a good showing against some of their rivals from the other side of the river today.

NDA def Seton 25-20, 25-20, 25-15 (Seton is projected to be towards the bottom of the GGCL, but still a good team, as always)

St Henry def Columbus Bishop Watterson 25-20, 20-25, 25-19 (Watterson was a regional finalist in D1 last year)

St Henry def McAuley 25-14, 25-13 (Looks like McAuley could be in for a long season)

Great showing by Ryle after losing to Boone in the morning session. They lost to a quality Greenwood team. Greenwood is a tall and senior filled team that is very good. Probably the best in the west. Thought I saw Ryle winning in game three late but Greenwood must have come back.

Simon Kenton had a quality showing at the tourney as well. They made it to the Silver Championship by defeating Boone in three games. Then only to fall to Lexington power Henry Clay for the second time on the weekend.

Ironically, Ryle and Simon Kenton will meet Turesday night in Union. They did not meet at Lexington. However, Ryle fell to Boone and SK defeated Boone. So, it should be a interesting matchup.
