I am starting this thread to find out if Russell has done anything about the problems with their field/playing surface?

Russell has a very nice facility but have always had some serious problems with the field. I am not trying to put anyone down or start anything. I am just asking. At the end of last season there was some talk of Russell getting the "spray on" type turf that Raceland had installed a few years ago. This application has greaty helped the field at Raceland.

Anyway, has there been anything done to try and improve the field surface at "the Hank"?

Yes, the folks at Russell have stopped allowing people to use spit tobacco at ball games. The administration believed that the spit was trickling down onto the field and causing moisture problems.:lol:

I hope so :thumb: Russell has always had trouble geting any grass to grow or to keep it if it did come up. That (Russell's stadium) is just too nice of a facility to have a field/playing surface that poor and I hope that they get it (new grass)to take hold and stay. Do you have any idea what kind of grass it is?

They took a big part of the "hump" out. Which was the priary cause for the bad field conditions, imo. It was important enough that the guy doing the job, he's the guy who is in charge of all the grass at the Bellefonte Country Club, to take it out. It looks much better and has bermuda growing nicely on it at this time. It should be good to go by the first home game.
