July 25, 200818 yr Can someone ballpark how many of Petrino's guys have been arrested/kicked off the team/discplined? My initial reaction is that Petrino is downplaying the problem but maybe I'm overestimating the number of incidents they've had.

Steve Kragthorpe said at Louisville that he felt like he inherited a lot of disciplinary issues, and there's certainly been an insinuation that discipline is being handled more strictly now. I'm wondering if you're aware of some of those comments and how they strike you. COACH PETRINO: I saw some of those comments. We didn't have discipline problem when I was there. Knock on wood. You always knock on wood on that, but we had players that were real focused, did a great job, went 41 9, and I think they returned 21 starters off of that Orange Bowl team. So, you know, I felt good about the way we left the program and the shape that we left the University of Louisville in.
July 25, 200818 yr There is a good deal of disagreement in the UofL camp on this one. It is clear that there were some players with disciplinary issues left from the team. However I have to give credit to Petrino, these issues didn't pop up under his watch. Why is that? Some think they were scared of him, some think they were to focused on football under Petrino to cause problem, and some think that Petrino was magically able to hide everything. I THINK that it has everything to do with losing. Losing is depressing, losing makes you not care, losing makes you lose focus, and losing makes you feel like a loser. I've played on winning teams and I've played on losing teams. The more we lost the more disciplinary issues the team came up with. I was not happy with the way Petrino left, but I'm not upset with the condition he left the program in. Many players have said they relaxed after the OB and I feel Kragthorpe did a poor job in recognizing and responding to this. While Petrino was at UofL he did his job and did it well.

Fair or not, I don't believe Petrino had it in him to discipline talented problem players. Didn't he let Spillman come back after an incident?
