July 25, 200818 yr I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. Yes, I did pay taxes on the cash I paid for the stocks I bought. So, you paid taxes on the money when you earned it. Now, you have put it to work for you again and you are expected to pay more taxes on the same money. And somehow you are labeled a greedy rich guy that is wanting your cake and eating it too. Bad boy.:irked:

I am concerned with the effect on the economy if its raised. And to be completely accurate, I'm not taxed again on the money I invest but , rather, the profits.

July 25, 200818 yr I worked for the CASH I paid for that stock, correct? You're discounting the work required to earn the money necessary to invest in the stock. The tax is on your cashing out.
July 25, 200818 yr You are taxed on the money you earned and have already been taxed on, working for you. The tax is on the growth of the stock. Correct. That's what I said or tried to say. RRR - I'm not debating the concept of cap gains taxes. My contention is with your implication that I somehow didn't do anything to "earn" my profit. That's like saying if I got a scholarship to college that resulted in an education that earned a high-paying job that I didn't earn that job. I made the investment. I earned my gain.

I bought SBUX, and it's tanked! If I cash out, I'll get to claim a loss!
