A Question On Adoption

Featured Replies

I favor allowing a same sex couple to adopt only after EXHAUSTIVE attempts have been made to place a child in a "traditional" home setting. I agree that a child is better off in a home with a loving same sex couple then they are being shuffled around in the foster care system, but all efforts to get a child placed with a "traditional" couple should be taken before that placement.

Order of preference for placement:

1. Traditional parent home

2. Same sex couple home

3. Single parent (either sex) home

With no offense to single parents, I know many and most of them are outstanding parents, I think a couple is better able to deal with the needs of a child then a single person is. Being single myself and knowing how stretched my time seems to be I can't imagine how I would be able to deal with a child and give him/her the time and attention they require.

What gives homosexuals the desire to raise children?

I am actually wondering. I believe that we were given two primal (and broad) urges- to allow the survival of our individual selves (eating, protection) and to allow the survival of our species (pro-creation). Homosexuals, for whatever reason, have neglected the desire to pro-create. Why would they want to adopt? Benevolence? I guess it is possible, but I don't understand what would be the true driving force. I can't think of what kind of moral psychology would encourage that kind of behavior. Then again, I guess a similar argument can be made for anyone who adopts. I'm not sure what I am trying to say, it just confuses me.

Not that I disagree with the order of your preferences, I would say that single or married, it's not that different. If both parents are involved, then they'll still be committing the same amount of time that a couple would.

When saying single parent I wasn't talking about divorced or unmarried couples and their children, rather people like me who have never been married and don't have children who just decide to adopt where they will be the sole parent.
