cheapseats
Heard that noone showed up for their football camp. Saw it advertised in the Owen County paper. He must have not contacted the park and recreation director because he always has kids out. I know when the Rebels play our county in the traveling leagues on Sunday, they always have good teams. I don't think it was well publicized. Attendance at youth camp was low last year too. In order to have the kids turn out there should be something sent home with the kids from school and the camp needs to be early in the summer. Youth coaches need to call their players and urge them to go to camp. The basketball camp held in early June was packed.
BENGAL 15
Blackburn? Didn't he coach last season at Owen? Yea he was on the staff last year...From what I heard he is the one that always underminded the head coach with the kids. I don't think he and the head coach got along to well. Hope that doesn't happen this year....He use to play for Owen County.

I just heard from some of the players that he and the head coach didn't get along..They also told us that the head coach would tell them one thing and he would tell them he didn't have a clue as to what was going on and do it another way....That come from a couple players..That's not something to tell a player. If you have a problem with the head coach go to him not the players. That is so childish..They may have thought he would help get some numbers, but apparently that ain't it.....
barrel
Coach Fowler saw that when he was growing up in the Mayfield system and then again when he played in Shelby County saw how much of an improvement the Rockets had when they started from elementary on up to the high school level. I can not comment on Mayfield by the Shelby County comment is off. Youth and middle schools teams in Shelby did not run the same stuff as the HS. As far as "improvement" Between 76 and 93 Shelby played in 4 state title games winning 1 and had 1 undefeated season. Look at the teams Shelby played in the early 90s when Fowler was there. The Freshman played both Trinity and St X twice every year. There is no question his playing days had an impact on how and what he coaches. Does the man have a good football I.Q. cause it seems to me a new coach wouldn't just keep someone on staff (especially if it were someone that did nothing but start touble) to try and get numbers up. If anything one would think that getting rid of a troublesome coach would increase the numbers...........so why hire him back?

He played football but don't really know how much actual knowledge is there. I think last year was his first year helping out. I know he didn't under Coach U. You do know that coach U is at Gallatin County now. Good move CATS....Thats another issue in itself..Owen got rid off Allnutt and Coach U resigned...Funny thing Owens football program isn't very good...Gallatin County is starting to get a real program and look whos helping out with the coaching...That all goes back to POOR ADMINISTRAION PROBLEMS IN OWEN COUNTY..... minnow
The best thing that could happen for this community would be if everyone could let by gones be bye gones and let the new coach have a chance. Anyone know what kind of system the new coach is implementing? Anyone know if he's made any connections in the younger ranks to look at specific fundamentals and/or plays that need to be worked on at each level? barrel
The offense has been turned over to the OC for complete controll. I would not be surprised if they run a 44 and look to force teams to throw
retired
Guys, coach Fowler is the Head Coach at Owen County....Regardless of Knowwlege base, all Coaches should strive to become better on Tuesday than they were on Monday.....Give the young man a chance to be successful.....When is that last time that Owen has posted a wining season?? Some of you on this thread are acting as if you are coming off of a Dozen District Titles, and 3 dozen Regional Title appearances....Please give the young man a chance.......If you know of any young men that should be on the team, do your part to get them there....... I think that the overall mood with those who are currently a part of Owen Co football is very good. The players seem to be enjoying practice and are learning alot. From what I have seen and heard Coach Fowler and company have alot of support from the players, parents, and administration. I have also heard that he and the middle school coach have been conferring some. Something that is way overdue. Do I expect to have a winning season? Maybe not yet. But I do expect to see improvement in all areas including morale.
