Ryle Fast Pitch Softball Coach Matteoli resigns

Featured Replies

In the Enquirer today. Coach Billy Matteoli resigned on Tuesday.

I heard this was coming before the state tournament started. He won a lot of games at Ryle. With Allen graduating, this coming season was going to be a rebuilding year anyway. Good luck to Coach Matteoli and to the Ryle softball program.

He seems like a good guy . However, some are going to chuckle at this one.

I am sure it will be down hill for a while at Ryle regardless of his decision.

It will be a drop off, but the rest of the region is not very good, they will still be one of the better teams in the 9th.

I agree. However, with Allen and the other seniors the lost, you know the rest of the region will be licking their chops thinking they have a shot at Ryle this coming season. I still think they are the best in their region.

Wonder who will be the upcoming pitcher for Ryle? They used a senior to pitch JV this past season.

A senior? That surprises me. I would think with Allen on the mound, he could have used the senior in other games that Ryle was going to win easily and given Allen a break. Then you could use the JV games to develop Allen's replacement after graduation.

I know they had an 8th or 9th grader who also pitched last year.

That would make more sense than pitching a senior in JV games.

I agree JV games where you need to develop the younger kids. Doesn't make much sense to pitch a senior in your JV games if that was the case.

Unless stats and records are more important to them .I think he knew he was leaving(he almost left last year)so it did not matter what was left there,or ready for the future.JMO

So you're saying that as a paid coach of the team, he had no responsibility or obligation to be concerned with preparing the team for future years, regardless of whether or not he knew he was leaving? Can't buy that one. ;)

I would certainly hope that this wasn't the case. As a coach, you always want to leave a program in better shape than what you found it. That shows a responsibility to all the kids, not just those who are graduating.

You are entitled to your opinion.Look at the stats .How many games did Allen pitch ?How many did they play ?Then look at innings if possible. Why pitch her vs teams (and I mean no offense ,these teams are not at the levelof others yet)like St Henry,Holmes, and Holy Cross. You are obviusly going to win these games .Then throw another senior in the JV game.I am glad the other young lady got some some work in .She is a great kid,as is Allen.Like I said ,Just my opinion
