Great game, I felt horrible for the SS as said earlier he made several nice plays in the game. I heard more than 1 person say they thought the pitcher deflected the ball a little, I didnt see it ( but I dont see so well anymore:D) wondered if anyone did hear if it was actually deflected a little, it did look like it did have some awkward spin. Really nice team with a bright future, by far best game of the 1st round.

 

The ball appeared to take a funny hop over his glove on the last play.

A couple of questions from the game.

 

1) If Coach Martin was tossed why was he allowed to stay in front of the dugout calling all the signals and such? The correct call was made on the play at 1st base. Apparently he was supposed to be confined to the dugout. I have never witnessed that in baseball. Any time a coach is tossed they are usually tossed completely.

 

2) Did the Catholic catcher allow the umpire to get hit with a Maronde fastball? There was a swing and a miss and the catcher never touched it as it hit the plate umpire in the chest. It happened after Catholic Coach Martin had been complaining. It was as if the catcher never made an attempt to catch the ball at all.

 

I thought the play at first base where Martin was restricted to the dugout happened after the play where the umpire was hit, so there was no retaliation for that play. Now, coach Martin and coach Whitaker as well, had issues with the strike zone during the inning the umpire was hit.

Did you see it? The catcher sure did not raise his mitt to catch the ball. It was a very unusual looking pitch and catch (or should I say lack of attempt to catch) at best. If I am not mistaken it was immediately after the catcher and pitcher had a conversation on the mound too. I really would like to see a replay. My initial reaction was that the catcher made no attempt to catch it and it was shared by those around me. It would not have caught my attention as easily had I not been reading about the incident previously in a different state. If anyone has a video I would like to see it. I'm not so sure the KHSAA wouldn't like to see it as well.

How is it we were getting updates, but now there's no one who can give us a rundown of how an extra-inning game ended? Good grief.

He held the ball, didn't he? Seems to me the collision should have been a moot point, as the batter/runner should have been called out, in spite of whether he was inside or outside the 45 foot running lane.

I think the argument was if the runner was tagged out or not. The tag was made on the runners back, whereas the 1st base umpire was facing the runner. The 1st base umpire was not in position to see a tag from behind, he was in position to see a bang-bang play at first (as he should have been). That is why the homeplate ump came in and said that he was tagged on the back. The right call was eventually made.
