Presumptive GOP Presidential nominee John McCain is hosting a Memorial weekend get-together at his ranch in Sedona, AZ, hoping to shift his search for a running mate into high gear.

 

I just saw that that these five men are on the guest list and will be at the ranch:Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, Fmr. presidential candidate Mitt Romney, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Sen. Lindsey Graham, and Sen. Joe Liebermann.

 

Four or five others were invited, but indicated that they "had other plans" and won't be able to attend. Among these were Gov. Mike Huckabee and Sam Brownback. In the end, who do you think McCain will choose as his running mate? Will it be one of these men or possibly someone else?

 

While Crist, Romney, and Jindal are being mentioned the most right now, I wouldn't discount someone like Rob Portman, who would appeal to conservatives and possibly independents as well. I would be very surprised if the 36 year-old Jindal gets the nod. I don't think McCain is fond at all of Romney, but may feel like Romney would help him with the economy issue.I think he wants someone with some executive experience, someone who will bring some energy to the campaign, strong in the domestic arena, and capable of taking over the duties of president.

 

Who do you think McCain is most likely to select as his running-mate?

Romney, Crist, and Jindal would have been my top three picks but the fact that McCain is having all of them to his place for a barbecue makes it less likely that he will pick one of them, IMO.

 

Haley Barbour is my pick. He will be help McCain with conservatives and he is a proven fund raiser. Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin is also still a strong contender, IMO, despite the birth of her fifth child. Finally, the choices do not include Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, who is another strong contender.

 

McCain is wisely floating a lot of names to generate some free publicity and prevent Democrats from being too focused with their opposition research efforts. Bush's choice of the chairman of his selection committee, Dick Cheney, was a brilliant political move that will probably not work a second time.

Of course, I would love to see Huckabee involved, BUT, Crist to help win Florida (if Portman is not going to be a possible selection to help win Ohio because of his close ties to Bush) is the better choice.

I am not sold on McCain....a bit old and same policies as Bush. My quality of life is not very good at the moment under the current administration and I am not sure I can handle 4 more years of the same old things. My pockets are too shallow to handle all this war expense.

Hopefully, we will get someone who will have a much different approach than the present administration.

One year of war expense would fund education for around 20 years. Gas for the Iraqi people is in the 25 cent range. They are charging our miltary over 3 dollars and we are there helping them. Milk at 4 dollars a gallon,etc.....Is Bush the worst President in history? I hope we get someone who solves the problems within our country first then tries to help the other countries.

Good luck on that one, the idea that we'll find one who will solve all our own problems is pretty unrealistic.

You are more than entitled to vote on whether or not you believe the war is right, but don't think that picking one of the anti-war candidates is going to lessen the government's reach into your pockets. With a Democrat President and a Democratic congress, I believe your taxes will go up
