Even with a pitchout, don't you throw your bat at the ball. You have to do whatever you can, even if you have to throw your bat. Can't leave the runner out to dry.

I agree with the above statement about throwing the bat at the ball. That could even distract the catcher enough that he might miss it if you don't make contact, but in that situation, you have to do WHATEVER it takes to get a bat on it!
