Either Boone, Dixie, or NCC/Highlands is going to get a darn tough first round game if they draw BHS. The draw is going to be critical. Anyone know when it is?

Wasn't a guarantee at all. Very well played game by both Villa and Dixie. A few plays go differently and Villa is in the regional. Nichols brought his "A" game with 18 strikeouts, but Villa touched him up in the 4th and 5th innings. Dixie scored 2 in the bottom of the fifth and held on.

In Theoldguy honest opinion;

 

#1 CovCath outstanding pitching and hitting, but they are going to have to start fielding the ball cleanly, to win the Ninth.. BTW CovCath is a combined 11-0 against the rest of the Ninth Region teams still in the Tourney.

 

#2 Beechwood very good hitting team and they do have a stud pitcher but is their pitching deep enough to win the Ninth..

 

#3 Boone County outstanding hitting team, fielding is questionable, as is their pitching, but they can outscore you, while still giving up a number of runs to you... If their pitching is on this upcoming week........then...

 

#4 NewCath can field the ball, and has some pitching, but can they hit well enough against the better pitchers to win the show.

 

#5 Highlands has an outstanding pitcher, and they can score runs in bunches, but do they have enough pitching and can they limit their mistakes....

 

#6 Dixie has the best pitcher in the Region, and no one wants to face him, but can Dixie score enough runs to win, and is the pitching deep enough to win more than one game.

 

#7 Lloyd has won some games against the big boy's but can they beat them in the biggest games of the year....

 

#8 St. Henry when you have Walt as your coach you win, and the St. Henry players always give there all, but is their all going to be enough to even win one game....

Baseball, softball tourney draws set

The draws for the Ninth Region baseball and softball tournaments will take place this weekend.

 

The softball draw is scheduled to be held at host site Dixie Heights at 10 a.m. Saturday.

 

The baseball draw is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. Sunday at Ryle; that tournament will be played at Champion Window Field in Florence.

As hard as it might be to believe Villa earned their way to 2 runs against a D1 pitcher who was absolutely on his game. Not many teams in the region would score 2 or more runs the way Nichols was throwing. He had 18 strikeouts and basically dominated hitters but Villa had great strategies to at least get a couple on the board. Joey Neal bunted for a single while Hamilton and Ries had back-to-back singles in the 4th inning to score, and Joey Neal later made Nichols balk to get in a run from 3rd base.

 

If only Villa stopped Dixie from scoring those extra couple they might have pulled it out. It was never guaranteed that Dixie would win that game until the last pitch.

Does anyone know what regional winner will the 9th regional winner face.

I am asking because 10th region plays the 12th.

BTW I want to in advance, thank Mr. Brown and his Florence Freedom for making the Champion Window Filed available to the Ninth Region to play their tournament at. No where in the Commonwealth does any Region play at such a outstanding ball park, not only for the players and teams, but also for us, the fans. Thank you Mr. Brown.....

 

I also want to bring to everyone's attention just how nice Mr. Brown and the Freedom are to the Non-Profit Companies like I work for. The Freedom are making available to us on Tuesday (50) free tickets so that we can take our clients (Handicapped Adults) to see a baseball game. I know that my guy's are really pumped to get a chance to see the Freedom play, as they love the game of baseball and are truly looking forward to see the Freedom play.

I'd like to see a Dixie vs. Beechwood matchup. Nichols vs. Elliott would be fascinating. Boone vs. Highlands would also be a fun game to watch - Towles vs. Boone's solid hitting.

 

CCH is obviously the clearcut #1 overall seed, so it's not unfair that they should get a Lloyd or St. Henry first round matchup.

Also, what game will the above mentioned group be coming to? I'll make sure to play some songs that they'll like. I may even try to see if Belle would be able to make an appearance....although i'm not going to guarantee it. Also, if you can come up to the pressbox, I'll see what I can do about getting the group name announced pending approval of our PA guy.
