May 15, 200818 yr Maddux said Edmonds had been swinging a good bat in the two weeks before he was released. He may have tried to come back to early from a calf injury. If the Padres thought Edmonds was swinging the bat OK, they wouldn't release him to bring up Jody Gerut, a journeyman with chronic knee problems and who isn't a legitimate CF.

May 15, 200818 yr Regarding last night's game, the home plate ump had a liberal strike zone, to say the least. But I really felt like it went both ways. However the SD television homers did not agree. I was having to watch the SD broadcast because of my Direct TV package and what a bunch of whiners! They sounded as bad as some of the parents at my son's LL games. From about the 4th inning on, they complained and complained and when Marmol struck the 3rd guy out looking in the 8th, they almost came unglued. We had to watch it several times in slow motion--it was absurd. The Padres did not lose because of the home plate ump, but these guys were nuts. My son said in the middle of the game, "I'm so glad we've got Len and Bob!" and I told him I could not agree more!
May 16, 200818 yr Ryan Dempster has been a revelation for the Cubs ... I don't know if he can last a full season in the rotation, given his injury history, but he's been awfully good so far.
May 16, 200818 yr Dempster has been huge. The Cubs also do well in the stretches when Lilly pitches well.

May 16, 200818 yr Author I remember when WGN used to show Cubs games. It was so long ago. I remember back in the 80's WGN used to show all 162 games a year. In Mississippi, there wasn't much on tv and my dad thought watching would make me better:lol:This is how I trace my roots of being a cub fan. You don't choose to be a Cub fan, they choose you:cry:
