Track the Cubs (week 7)

I was at Wrigley today for the final game of the sweep of the D-backs. I've been to apx 10 Cub games and this one was by far the best one I've been to. It had a little of everything, wind, rain, rain delay, some homers, pinch hit big hits, a fan leaping from the center field bleachers onto the field and getting slammed by security, which by the way was hilarious! And most of all, a Cubs W!!! Nothing better than being at Wrigley when the Cubbies win and 30k+ all singing Go Cubs go!:dancingpa

BTW, back in first!:ylsuper:

Ain't that the truth! That song is something else when the whole place is celebrating and singing. Was the fan incident after Reed Johnson's homer? I was having to watch it on FSN Arizona (my MLB Extra Innings package) and they kept showing the crowd laughing and pointing to the outfield, but of course didn't tell us what happened. It seems like every time I've been to Wrigley, something memorable happens. I got to see Mad Dog and the Rocket go after each other a couple of years ago and then last year the best--the Lou 3rd base ump rant. He threw his hat and kicked the dirt and it was awesome! It was the day after the Big Z-Barrett dugout fight, which we missed but heard all about because we were arriving in Chicago and it was all over the radio.

Yes it was right after Reed Johnson's home run, the next pitch was the 4th ball to Theriot. It was hilarious, so cold but an awesome game! I'll upload a pic of the perp when I get my pics off my camera:lol:

It's ridiculous. If you want to jump on the field and be an idiot, be a White Sox fan. That kind of behavior is expected there. Good to see them bounce back after losing a series to the Dreds.

The Cubs are showing interest in signing Jim Edmonds, released by the Padres last week.

My buddy said that, do you have any links? I don't know why they would want him? Reed Johnson and Pie are both better batters and fielders than he has been this year. If it was Jim Edmunds of 2 years ago, I'd be all for it, but I don't know why they'd want him?

Because Pie = Patterson and the Cubs need another left-handed bat in the lineup. Fukodome is the only lefty they have. There's no place for Ward. They are crushing leftys but avg against right-handers.

If the Cubs sign Edmonds, they are only on the hook for the league minumum. But Pie is not the every-day answer in center field because of his lack of offense.

At this point, I would still rather have Pie as a part-time CF than Edmonds, who's lost a step or two in the field and whose bat isn't aging all that gracefully ...

Why not just go after Kenny Lofton?

I'll have a hard time cheering for Edmonds in a Cubs uni. He has always got on my nerves! I hope this doesn't pan out--I read that he has to clear waivers first.

He's expected to clear waivers Wednesday. The more I think about it, I'm ok with it, even if I hated Edmonds when he played for the Red Turds, but if we can package Pie in a deal for a solid #2 starting pitcher, I'll be ok with it. Edmonds recently has been a slow starter so he may have something left in the tank. You've got 2 speedy corner outfielders now so he wouldnt have to cover as large a area. It could work and they can always use another left handed bat, if nothing more than to prevent the opposing pitcher from getting too comfortable pitching to all those right handed bats

A lot more room to cover in Petco than Wrigley. Maddux said Edmonds had been swinging a good bat in the two weeks before he was released. He may have tried to come back to early from a calf injury. He'll platoon with Johnson in center so he won't be playing every day. It's a low risk gamble. If he produces, you have another Gary Gaetti, another low risk move that heped the Cubs win the WC 10 years ago. If he flames out (pun intended), you release him and recall Pie, who has now been getting at bats everyday in Iowa, even if he does = Patterson

Yea the more I think about it, I really like it...
