Whitley Co 2008/2009

Featured Replies

What does Whitley Co. need to do to improve in 2008/2009? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

Whitley needs to be more consistant and one of the big guys needs to get 12 and 8 every game. LeBanion needs to keep his head on straight. He is a gifted player.

Lebanion is the key to Whitley contending with the likes of South Laurel and Corbin. He can be one of the best players in the region and hopefully will get the chance to show it this year.

Whitley needs consistant guard play, nothing flashey just solid getting the ball to Lebanion where he can get to the bucket. They need to limit turnovers and I agree they need solid post play.

Chis Baker has done a great job getting the program headed in the right direction and if they continue to progress they could win twenty next year (if they schedule is favorable)

Anyone word on the Colonels? I have heard that they had a decent summer schedule, but no details other than they had a nice camp a the Cumberlands.

To avoid another loss, they should keep McCreary off the schedule.

They need Lebanion bad. He was a hoss for any team they faced a couple of years ago.

Not to worry Whitley wants to play teams with coaches with an understanding of sportsmanship. :fire: Maybe they should have saved some of those points for Pulaski SW!!!! Might have saved a quick exit, but scoring 100 I am sure was more important than a district title.

BTW where was Raider Rob during the Cumberlands camp? I am sure they could have learned alot from the Cumberlands program,:ylsuper:

Rob may have been on vacation during this time.

Whitley and McCreary do not seem to like each other very much. I listened to this game on the radio and some of the comments made there really shocked me. It was not a pleasant high school event. I was surprised no punches were thrown.

I think if these two teams played again this year the outcome might be different. Whitley should have a strong team with some size and strength. I look for Coach Baker to win more than 14 games this season and challenge for the district title. He came within an eyelash of beating the regional champs last year in the first round of the district. Whitley should be very proud to have him as their coach. I for one am a fan of the Colonel Chris Baker.

The score might be closer, but the winner will remain. McCreary is once again favored in the 12th. McCreary will finally put some tough teams on their schedule when they enter the Hoopsfest.

Whitley should be better, however.

I don't understand why a school like Whitley Co. with good facilities and a ton of kids never have a very good basketball team. I remember when I was in middle school they were the top team around and by my senior year we blew them out a couple times. It seems to be that way a lot down there. I am not trying to put them down, maybe if they get a coach who is consistent and stays there for a while they can get something going.

Regarding my previous post, I know nothing about their coach and the one they have in place now may very well be a great guy for the job.

I think that you hit the nail on the head. Whitley has had like 4 or 5 coaches in the ten years, which has not helped.

Chris Baker-1 year so far, looks like he will get two.

Mike Deaton-1 year

Darrel Guffey-2 years

Brian Evans-3 years

Dook Combs-1 year

Mike Maxey-4 years

Rich Prewitt-2 years

Jimmy Voight-3 year (?)

John Davenport- unk...

They seemed to make some progress last year, and this year could be more progress if things continue on the same path. They are FINALLY going to have some upper classmen, which over the past few years has been a rarity.
