CovCath 3 Ryle 0, or while I am happy with the win today, it's the victory in late May, that I want so very much more so....

 

After I get a bite to eat, I will post the good the bad and the box score.

Can't win a ballgame with a 0 in your scoring column....been around baseball a long time and never seen it happen.

 

The bright spots for the Raiders...The D looked good, Etch pitched a strong 7 innings. Also, the Raiders held Maile hitless. Lined to right, flew to center,

E5 and gronded to short.

 

The problems....gotta hit in the clutch, can't leave 13 LOB's and expect to win.

Looks like CCH recovered greatly since the Conner game

So much for the theory that neither team would hold back their top pitchers, as CCH came out with Isler for 4 innings and Etschied throws a complete game for Ryle. Both did very well, as did CCH sophomore reliever Matt Klein, who pitched the final three frames. He put a few guys on base with walks, but Ryle never came up with any timely hits, and he had them beating the ball into the ground. Good strategy throwing an off-speed/curve ball pitcher to follow up hard-throwing Isler. Ryle bats looked very, very poor - 3-4 hits maybe and very few balls hit hard.

What's Ryle's record now DD?

 

 

Pretty sure its 2 & 6. Lost 3, one run games to Trinity, E Town and Franklin Co. last week.....again, cutch hitting.

That is not true, he had a single to left that scored Holocher with the first run.

The CovCath Good:

 

Matt Klein, a sophomore came in to relive Isler in the fourth. Isler who had only given up 1 hit, but had walked 3 and thrown 69 pitches however Krumps wasn't about let his junior righ hander to throw anymore. So Krumps brought in his young talented sophomore with the score tied 0-0 in the bottom of the fourth and Klein passed this test with flying colors. Great job by the CovCath pitching staff that is getting deeper and deeper.

 

Tyler Holocher, who has taken a lot of heat from some fans about not only his fielding but his lack of hitting, answered those critics with an outstanding game in the field and at the plate. In the bottom of the fourth with the bases loaded of Raiders, a Ryle batter #28 hit a slow grounder to Holly who charged the ball, scooped it up, and then gunned the runner down at 1st. In the top of the 5th, Holly sent a shot down the left field line and showed his speed, by turning it into a double. That hit sparked the Colonels to score all there three runs of the game in that inning. An outstanding game by a great kid.

 

Ryan Darner, was 2 for 3 and also reached base on a E-6 with an RBI. RD also made a couple of nice plays in the field and is starting to made this poster think that maybe, just maybe, we have a vacuum II at third this year but with a deadly bat to boot.

 

Another kid who has taken some grief so far this season second basemen Brandon Lafever. All he did was to get a RBI, and ended the game with a nice catch that he turned into a DP.

 

Finally yesterday game against Badin it was the top of the lineup that did it all but the bottom of the lineup scored two of the three CovCath runs today.

 

The CovCath bad: Maybe if you really want to get picky, the team is being to aggressive at the plate. Through four complete innings the Ryle pitcher had only thrown a total of 34 pitches. I will say that some of the balls were hit hard but right to someone.

Actually not....when a line drive deflects off the third baseman's glove on a ball hit right at him, it's an error.

Cov Cath hit the ball hard all game, just seemed to be right at somebody most of the game. Holocher started the rally in the 5th (I believe) with a double down the line. Maile was able to drive him in with a sharp single to left. Cov Cath was able to push two more across in the inning and their pitching was able to hold the Raiders down. The much criticized middle infield for CCH looked good, besides one ball in the last inning that took a bad bounce. Holocher made a very nice play with bases loaded to keep the score 0-0 early in the game.

Fly out 9 in the 1st, Fly out 8 in the 3rd, single and RBI in the 5th and grounded out hard 6-3 in the seventh.

But if you frrl the need to pad your stats, call it what you want.

 

There is no padding anything, that ball never touched the third baseman's glove. I had a direct angle at the play and it never touched the third baseman's glove. I was at the game and really had no rooting interest either way, so I could care less what his stats are. The ball was smoked!

I would agree that the ball he hit to third was absolutely scorched, but it was also hit right at the 3Bman, who let it go off his glove. The ball should have been caught and I'd be awfully surprised if that didn't go down in Ryle's book as an error. Those are the plays you have to make in games like this. CCH made them, Ryle didn't.

We were on the third base side and not only heard it hit the glove but also watched it change direction.

The only thing that touched the ball was the outfield grass and the outfielders glove scooping it up. 3rd basemen didn't have a shot at catching it.
