Who will be on the mound for the Camels? Unless it is Woodruff, I'm not sure that the Camels have a pitcher that can shut down Dixie.

All 5 of Dixie's runs were unearned. Camel defense was horrible at best. The Nichols kid did shut down the Camels. He kept them off balance the whole way. I think he only gave up 3 hits. Woodruff pitched 3 solid innings until his defense fell apart. Better luck tomorrow Camels against Highlands. The Camels need to bring Nick Shay up to play shortstop as his glove and bat and arm are better than anyone on the varsity. Zach Sellers should also be brought up to do long relief and close. Woodruff is pitching too good to lose games like this.:irked:

Camels are fine on pitching. No one needs to be brought up. Once the camels get more games and practices their fielding and hitting will come. For pitching only two pitchers have really seen many innings so far becuase not many games have been played as result of the rain. why bring up pitchers when you have 9 pitchers already on varsity and a short stop when you have 3 players who can play that position also?

Nick Shay played at Scott as an 8th grader. He has been at Campbell County since his freshman year. This kid can really play and hit.

If the Camels have 9 pitchers on the varsity why is it then that the same 2 are being used all of the time. All I am saying is that Sellers is a proven reliever and closer at not only the JV level but his age level in summer ball as well. He plays in the SWOL league with Shay, Estes and Coffman. I have also seen some disturbing plays at short that were fundamentally unsound for high school players. Andy Franzen is the only one that has a clue and his arm just isnt strong enough to consistently go in the 6 hole and throw runners out. If Shay were at short and Franzen at 2nd the infield up the middle would be tough as their would be alot of athleticism.

Shay was not even in the JV line-up due to eligibility today. Sellers is a good pitcher. Broering also plays with Shay in SWOL.

You are right that Shay was not in the lineup because of eligibility. Sellers is a junior and alot better than a jv player. Broering played fall ball with the boys and this will be his 1st year for summer ball with them. There are alot of programs with 20+ players and while I dont think that you need to water down the team, I do believe you need to have options. If everyone thinks the defense will come around from playing games I submit to you a very long season that will be a huge disappointment. These guys should be practicing every possible chance that they can get.:irked:

Agreed, but this is somewhat of a down year talent wise. Not a dig at the boys, but very few of them have Varsity level experience. I'd rather hold judgement to see what happens at the end of the year.

 

Woodruff needs help, but that can only come as more players learn their role. More games with sunshine will help that. Fighting thorough a litte adversity will help strengthen the team as well.

Not too much of a suprise to me, especially with Nichols on the mound.

I will definitely agree with that but when he does he needs to be called up. As a sophomore he is definitely a better hitter than anyone on the varsity as a hitter with the possible exception of Woodruff. He just does not strike out. He is also more athletic in the field and with a lot stronger arm than anyone attempting to play short.
