Montgomery County jumped ahead with the games first 8 points and it was not until 5:49 left in the first quarter before Scott scored. At that point Montgomery turned up the defensive pressure and turned Scott over numerous times and fueled a 14-0 run to jump ahead 22-2 from the 5:49 mark until Scott scored their 4th point with 49 seconds left in the quarter to go ahead 22-4. Montgomery County shot 15-20 in the first half for 75% and near 60 percent from 3 point range in that half.

 

Just like the first half for Montgomery and their 14-0 run, Scott comes out of the locker room and starts a 16-4 run of their own but really never got any closer in the 2nd half than 13 points. The 14-0 run sucked all the gas out of the Eagles at the end. Scott is not a fast paced team, averaging 56 points a game on the season so Montgomery County did a good job getting them into their flow of the game. Hendrix with 17, Stull with 16, 2 other starters with 12 apiece to lead the Indians. Turnover department was pretty even, something like 21 to 19 Scott with the larger number.

 

Go to the Herald Leader online and it says 28 and 29 turnovers. Must have been a very sloppy game.

The press MC threw at Scott was a good one. What was surprising was why Scotts Coach did not have his better ball handlers helping with bringing the ball up the court in the first quarter when things were not going well. He brought in a kid to handle the ball after they were well down and I felt he and Hiller started bringing the Ball North and South instead of East and West. The team has improved as a whole since I watched them play SK first time around. They should do well in their region next year.

He had a couple of turnovers in the second half trying to force things when Scott was trying to come back but overall he looked like the most poised ballhandler that they had.

 

At one point Scott had freshmen PG, soph center and three juniors on the floor. I think that group can be a good foundation for a run into the post season next year.
