South Laurel 74 Clay Co. 64 13th region

Featured Replies

I was for Clay but I agree, South looked to be the better team. Much quicker than Clay except for maybe #12 from Clay. She looks to have the most potential for Clay along w/ W.B. Jackson. Clay's future looks bright if they all stay together. Only 1 senior next year??

Clay will be loaded for years to come.

Whitney Jackson is going to be a star.

Congratulations to the Lady Cards!!!

We are all very proud of the team for not quitting when Clay Co. made a comeback. I know both teams played their hearts out.It was a shame for one of them to loose.I agree with you Les, Coach Burchell is a class-act and Clay is an awesome team. I really feel bad for Gemma and Sarah, both seem like great kids and are excellent ball players. Jackson will be an allstar player. Good Luck South at Bowling Green!

I feel like the game was called pretty fair. Yes, the referees could have called Dean for reaching, but they could have also called Jackson and Phillips for riding on Wombles back all night.

I don't know the individual scoring, but South played an awesome game tonight.

I'm really impressed with all of the SL fans that came out today to support the Lady Cards. They showed alot of class by not yelling negative things toward the Clay fans.

I also want to congratulate Lauren Wombles for being named 13th Region Player of the Year.

Great player, great kid.

She's a class-act.

I think Clay underestimated South as a team. Coach Burchell said on WYMT after the Middlesboro game if you stop Wombles you stop South. Wombles got in some foul trouble & Clay did a pretty good job on her but South controlled the game from the start. Little Dean girl had great shooting game and caused multiple turnovers with her quickness. Sizemore, point guard, played entire game, handled ball. controlled tempo on offense and on defense cut down on Clays' guards penetation into the lane. Justice scored some timely points from 3 and the freethrow line. Even though Jackson and Phillips scored some Justice and Davis knocked and banged with them all day. South also got some great minutes off the bench from their two freshman Burchett and Johnson. Good Luck Cards

I believe you hit it on the button.

Congrats LW she earned it. Congrats to the rest of the team as well.

I predicted South would win this region back in January. I love being right.

Congratulations to Lauren and the Cards! Here's wishing you luck Wednesday afternoon. :thumb:

Les, will I be seeing you there? Or will you be sending your lackeys? :D

Clay County fans -

Please email your complaints to Canady. If you need his email address, ask your coaches.

Great game for both teams !!!!! SL coaching staff did a great job preparing this kids ,Clay may have overlooked this one.

Clay fouled a lot from not being able to guard on the perimeter. Standing straight up a lot. Not moving their feet. Lots of work to do as far as defense and quickness. Good shooters and decent ballhandlers(learn to go left).

I agree with you about the learn to go left part.

South's quickness really showed a hole in Clay County's ability to drive to the basket.

Clay had one player(#12) who could drive to the basket. Gray could drive but always had to spin back to her right to get a shot off. The offense was somebody flash to the free throw line, take the pass and dump it to Jackson. Lots of potential. Let's don't waste it.

Clay County girls won the games they did this year because they were the better team, they didnt beat Whitley Co and Middlesboro because they got help from the refs they beat them because they were the better team that night, and thats what happend Sunday South was the better team Sunday.

When Clay got it inside, they scored, simple as that. They just didn't get it in there quit enough to win the game. The press bothered them and they rushed a shot or made a silly turnover and South capitalized with a big 3 most of the time or a layup! South deserved this one, they were ready to play and were well rested. Clay had the roughest road, but did have an extra day to rest because of weather. Should of both been ready to play. South's game plan worked a little better than Clay's. The Sophopmore #10 can flat out shoot the rock. Good luck Lady Cardinals in Bowling Green.
