Morgan Co. 33 Russell 31 / 16th Region 1st round

Featured Replies

I've watched this kid play ball since she was 9 years old, both softball and basketball, and have watched most of what's considered as some of the best teams to come through Russell (recent history anyway). IN GENERAL, she has performed well in high pressure situations, in both bball and softball!!! She has hit many important shots, especially free throws in bball, won state tournaments (on the mound), and came up with numerous big time hits.

I agree with others I that the Sparks girl has absolutely nothing to hang her head over. I know that us saying that doesn't help her much right now but I think that she will be able to look back on her carrer with a lot of pride. Samantha Sparks is one heck of a basketball player.

As Go stated and I agree, I wouldn't have wanted to be on that foul line and it definately imo would have helped her if others were lined up with her. As for the students running to the end of the court, I again agree that was just kids supporting their team and it sounds like that it was handled as best as possible, sure wouldn't have been the first time that a foul shooter had to go to the stripe in front of opposing fans cheering.

I can see by a lot of post not only on this thread but several others about her that although I do not personally know her or the family that Samantha Sparks is a class act.

Check out the Daily Independent has a great pic of Coach Brown and some of the girls!!! Great job to the coaches and girls from Morgan. We are very proud of you. Kudos to Samantha Sparks and the Russell girls. Bring on the mighty Vikes!

:thumb: Good luck to Morgan Co. from here as well, great pic in the paper by the way, your coach has some "hops" (LOL).

I remember when Coach Brown (as a player for Morgan County) hit a last second three pointer at Boyd County to beat Boyd on their home floor...1988 I think, might have been the Cougs 1st victory over Boyd. Was a lucky player and a lucky coach last night!!! Great coach but he has no hops....he is broke down....I think he jumped off the chair to get that high.

It was all camera angle my friend!

I am not stating anything bad about the kid, I havent watched her play and you are correct on your post about being CLUTCH. Having said that, how many clutch baskets has she made in her career?

I watched Russell play this year when they visited Boone Co. Even though we won the game, I was impressed with Coach Kidwell in the fact that he kept coaching his girls until the buzzer sounded....

I am confussed. Have you seen her play or not.

As a matter of fact yes but she wasnt that impressive to me. I guess I should have stated that I havent watched her play but only once. I was impressed with Kidwell and conitune to be.

Not impressed? What a joke

Samantha Sparks only hit a three pointer to beat West Carter during the regional semi-finals of her sophomore year. Last second three landed them in the finals....this year against Lewis Co...her team trailed by 22 points to Lewis Co. and she had 18 second half points I believe and led a furious comeback to win the game...they were down as many as 31 pionts in the second half? Any more proof of clutch performances needed?

One of the regions best female athletes, going to MSU to play softball.

Maybe you are right?

Do you remember her stats against Boone?

Not taking anything away from her and I wish her the best at MSU.

There should be no doubt in anyone's mind that Samantha Sparks is a clutch performer. She has proven that many times over in the last 5 years. I personally have enjoyed watching her play. Good luck Sam, in the upcoming softball season and also as you begin your college career.

Ashamed of what. I wish her the best at the next level. All I am stating that in the past few years all that was noised about was the Fortman girl, didnt her much about Sparks until this thread started. Because I gave an opinion that I was not that impressed with her when Russell played Boone, you are now going to attack me for it. As I earlier posted, I wish her well at the next level. For what it is worth I would never degrade a High Schooler but some of you parents live in a fantasy world.

IMOM, sorry that I offended you but for the Russell faithful to say she is one of the best clutch performers ever raises an eyebrow. Just wanted to see her stats... if that is degrading to you or her then I am truly sorry.

I think Sparks has been a great player and i bet any team would have loved to have had her. If I were coach Kidwell that is who I would want at the line in that situation. Good luck to her as she moves on

I really feel for Samantha, she has been everything to Russell this year and to have to finish her high school career like that seems like an injustice, but she has nothing to be ashamed about and should hold her head high and remember the great times she's had on the high school hardwood. I don't know Sam personally but everything I have heard she is a super girl and will succeed in anything she does. Good Luck at MSU next year.

You want stats, let me give you one; less than three percent of high school kids get to play at the next level . SHE is in that three percent !! PRETTY GOOD STAT IF YOU ASK ME !:thumb::thumb::thumb:
