MBKT Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 What were the top two or three freshman teams in Lexington and Louisville this year? What have your heard for next year's freshman teams?
HSBallFan78 Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 In Lexington, I believe Henry Clay probably had the best freshman team. I heard they went 18-3 or something like that. Also, about half the freshman team played significant JV from what I saw. And their JV team was also something like 3-4 losses for the year. 3 of the freshmen (Wilder, Stewart, Henderson) played for them as 8th graders. Dunbar had a pretty good freshman team. Bryan Station was pretty good also. Tates Creek would have had a great freshman team but 2 started for varsity (Fucci, Barksdale). Didn't get to see Lex-Cat freshmen this year, but saw their 14-15 yo AAU teams last summer in a couple of tournaments. The didn't impress me, but Lex-Cath always has a pretty good pipeline. Mason has a very good freshman team up north. Didn't see too many Louisville area freshman teams this year.
DBL505 Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 In Lexington I would say Creek had the best group of Freshman overall, with two freshman starting Varsity. And I know that LexCath had some size in the freshman class. (Two players 6'4+ and still growing) And at LCA, starting point guard Trace Heltons younger brother, Carter Helton, looks very promising. Along with an 8th grader that played freshman ball, Taylor Barnette, who can absolutely shoot lights out. Outside of Lexington Clark Co. had 5 freshman dressing Varsity and two(I think) starting. Looks like a talented class!!!!
gswilder Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Agreed. Henry Clay had best freshman team in Lexington this year. It has been tough on them the last couple of years with Scott Co and Bryan Station at their peaks. All 3 graduate important seniors this year. Henry Clay graduated 7-8 seniors, and will have 1 returning starter. But their Freshman and JV teams were both very strong this year. Scott will still be very strong in that district next year. If Phares keeps developing, Scott will be very very good again. And they have an true 8th grader (Manning) that looks to be the real deal. But I think Henry Clay will be right up challenging Scott for #1. Depends on how the young kids develop over the summer and fall. Bryan Station will have a huge rebuilding job next year after loosing Mack, and 2-3 other key players. Mack is just so good, and makes that team go. And Sayre, what a tough tough district for them to be in.

DBL505 Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Are the two freshman starters at Tates Creek big kids? One is. He is around 6'4 and one of the most relentless rebounders I have seen in a while. The other is a guard, and once he develops his shot will be a top player in the city, IMO. Both very athletic as well, saw them both dunking in warm-ups.
Bright Horizons Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Henry Clay lost to Bryan Station in the freshman district championship, they split the season series.
