Augusta: 14-53 FG, 6-15 FT, 42 rebounds, 25 (I think) TO

MC led by Keller Menke with 19, Chambers 12 and 10, Cline 11, Litzinger 5.

 

Augusta had Linville with 9, Whiteman 8, Hargett 7.

Layup central for Mason County in the first half. They only had 2 3's the first half, and half the other points came from lay-ups. Cline and Menke hit countless lay-ups off steals all throughout the first half, mainly Menke, while she only had 1 3 and a few free throws, the rest from bunny lay-ups.

 

Congrats on the win, and good luck against Bracken. They'll bring you everything they've got and then some. The points and steals/lay-ups won't come as easily as they did tonight.

Yes, that was probably the most surprising statistic for Mason tonight. Only about 50% from the line, which is well below the average for this Mason County team. Definitely something they will have to improve for the next game, and the regional tournament next week when there will be closer games and these free throws are needed more.

Yes. Faith Weddle, Whitney Allen and Christen Cropper (who got her first varsity action from what I know) all scored tonight for the very first time on the varsity level.

That is correct, two are 8th graders and 1 freshman. They were just moved up the last regular season game as Mason is carrying 15 players in the post season.

I'm glad Mason used their bench a lot tonight, because they are sometimes known for running up the score and leaving the starters in for the whole game, but that was not the case tonight at all. Everyone on the bench got significant minutes, and it seemed like everyone contributed. For Mason County to be successful in the future without the help of their 3 wonderful seniors they have this year, they will have to continue working on getting their bench some valuable minutes whenever they get the chance.

Chambers is one of the top players in the state and will take Mason co. as far as she can . She will also do well at Dayton next season. Very nice girl as well.

The free throw woes most likely would be due to the fact that 3 of the players that went 0-2 were in their first varsity action as 8th graders and 1 player receiving limited time all season and also a 8th grader. The main starters went 7 of 8 from the line. Those three players were Chambers 2/2, Cline that was 1/2 and Menke 4/4. Mason as a team shot 8 for 16 from the stripe. I wouldn't read alot into 50% on this night.

A lot of respect displayed tonight by both teams. Mason Co. by utilizing their bench players, not pressing a lot, and going to a zone defense most of the game. Augusta by wearing the black memorial band on the left shoulder in memory of Pauline Fay who passed away Saturday morning. (Mason Co. Very nice post Coach in the Stands! You are exactly right. A lot of class by both schools. Mason County's coaching staff did a great job of utilizing everyone on their bench and Coach Arnold of Augusta (very classy person) showed a lot of class and respect for Coach Buser's mother.
