It has been a poorly kept secret in the community since he accepted yesterday. Mike Settles is leaving Bullitt East to coach Lincoln County. His wife, Debbie, is an '89 alum from LC. Her parents still live in Stanford.

This will be a homecoming for their family.

Good Luck to Coach Settles.

A new era of football begins at Lincoln County High School as Mike Settles, age 38, becomes the 9th Head Coach in the School's 34 year history. Coach Settles was most recently the head coach at Bullitt East High School in Mount Washington where he guided the Chargers to a 51-20 record in six season. His best year was a AAA Semi-Final appearance in 2005 where his team lost to Bowling Green High School. The most notable win in his tenure at Bullitt East came during that same season when his Chargers beat Boyle County in the Region Finals 35-31. That stopped Boyle County's steak of six straight championship game appearances.

Prior to Bullitt East, Coach Settles was the head coach at Ohio County High School in western Kentucky. There, he took a struggling program to their first ever playoff game and first ever playoff win. He was the head coach at Ohio County for six years. His first coaching experience came as an Assistant Coach at Western Kentucky University sixteen years ago.

Mike was named the Associated Press Kentucky Football Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2005. He was District Coach of the year in 2002 and 2005 as well.

Mike is from west suburban Chicago, where he was football Captain for Willowbrook High School in Villa Park, Illinois. He attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois, where he was also a Senior Football Captain. He is married to Debbie Francis (LCHS '89), who is the daughter of Cabel and Martha Francis of Stanford.

I don't know and I don't think he knows yet. However, I did hear Bobby Lefew's name mentioned today. I think Darren Yaden would be a good fit at Offensive Coordinator.
