I would also outlaw all political parties. You run and get elected on your name, not whether you have a (D) or ® next to your name. Partisan deadlock is why America lags behind right now.

America lags behind in...

Taking care of their own.

Taking care of their own.

In 2006 we had the second highest Real GDP per Capita, behind Norway. Hardly lagging behind

How about education? Child poverty? Unemployment?

Change from winner-take-all plurality seating to multi-member districts.

While I agree the electoral college is flawed, one argument for it is that candidates would be able to ignore most of the states and campaign only in the top 10 most populous states. Most of the country would be ignored.

I agree. Look at Missouri and the Democrat Primary. Obama won 5 counties. That was it. But he won the 5 most populous counties in the state by a margin of 70 to 30, so he won the state. Even though over 90% of the counties supported Hillary, Obama won the state cause he won the most populous counties.

Larry, Eagle is right. You want to see 40 out of 50 states have no say in the Presidential election, go to the popular vote.

Now I could support that on first glance.

Who cares how many counties either candidate won, though? Why not break it down by how many voter precincts each won and find a disparity there? Or who carried more streets? Or, if you want to get down to the real nitty gritty...

...How many individual voters did each carry?:p

Unemployment is much better here than anywhere else, especially Europe.

Child poverty is a concern but it is still better than most countries (in terms of absolute not relative).

I will agree that education is a problem. Reform of the education system would do a lot to help the child poverty problem.

I was just referring to your comment that we lag behind; that simply isn't true. We still have work to do, but we are certainly the forerunner.

Are we really ahead of the Japanese?

Are we really ahead of the Japanese?

In most areas, yes, but our economy is still growing much faster then them.

Because we're buying their automobiles and electronics

Because we're buying their automobiles and electronics

True, without us they would be in deep trouble. They also buy a lot of the parts for their automobiles from America.

Absolutely it does! The EC is one of the main reasons the south has been over-represented in politics. Before slavery ended the 3/5ths rule helped the south in their over-representation.

FYI- the 3/5ths rule was put in place by the politicians of the northern states. The southern states wanted to count each person as a whole person but the abolitionist from the north only wanted to count slaves at a 1/2 rate, thus the 3/5th compromise. Read more on wikipedia

As for giving less populous states too much power, it does not? States get electors based on population, so a state with twice Kentucky's population would have twice as many electors. The difference is the larger states tend to support liberal / democratic candidates while the smaller states tend to support conservative / republican candidates, while this is not an absolute a look at the electoral map from any of the last several presidential elections will show this to be true.
